Position Title: BBB Intern-Finance

Duration: 3 months (Summer)

Location: Better Business Bureau of Chicago & Northern IL 

Overview:

The Chicago Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a leading organization dedicated to advancing marketplace trust. As a nonprofit, independent organization, we are committed to fostering a fair and ethical marketplace where businesses and consumers can trust each other. plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of various customer-facing departments, as well as overseeing technology, compliance, marketplace solutions, and accreditation standards review for incoming or current businesses

Position Overview:

As a Finance Intern at the Better Business Bureau of Chicago & Northern IL, you will be immersed in the core financial operations that support our mission of advancing marketplace trust. This role offers hands-on exposure to essential finance processes, allowing you to develop practical skills in revenue management, payment processing, and financial controls. Working closely with experienced professionals, you will contribute to the organization's fiscal integrity and help ensure smooth financial transactions across departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Revenue and Payment Operations: Assist in monitoring and recording daily revenue streams, processing incoming payments, and supporting accurate financial documentation.

Accounts Payable Processing and Vendor Support: Participate in the review and processing of accounts payable transactions, collaborate with vendors to resolve inquiries, and help maintain timely payments.

Corporate Expense Management: Support the tracking and reconciliation of corporate expenses, ensure compliance with organizational policies, and contribute to expense reporting.

Financial Controls and Reconciliation Projects: Engage in financial control activities, such as account reconciliations and audit preparation, to uphold the integrity and accuracy of financial records.

Requirements

Key Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or master's program in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business.
  • Rising senior undergraduate or first-year graduate student at an accredited college or university in the Chicago area, able to participate in a flexible hybrid work schedule.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and willing to learn Excel skills such as Pivot Tables and lookup functions.
  • Completion of relevant coursework or academic projects demonstrating foundational knowledge of finance, accounting, or data analysis.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical; comfortable working with data and learning in a professional finance environment.
  • Enthusiastic about pursuing a career in finance or accounting and gaining practical experience that supports future professional goals.
