What is a bbb?

The abbreviation 'BBB' can refer to different things depending on the context, but it is most commonly associated with the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau is a nonprofit organization that aims to advance marketplace trust by setting standards for ethical business behavior, handling consumer complaints, and providing information about businesses to help consumers make informed decisions. BBBs operate regionally across the United States and Canada and are known for their business accreditation and rating systems. If 'BBB' is being used in a different context, such as in science or technology, it may refer to something else, so it's important to clarify the industry or field.

As a Large Business Engagement Manager, you will identify, cultivate, and secure accreditation relationships with large and strategically important businesses throughout the region. You will serve as BBB's primary ambassador to executive leadership within the business community while managing relationships with existing large Accredited Businesses to drive engagement, retention, and growth.

You will work 37.5 hours per week in our hybrid work environment -- both from home and at the St. Louis BBB office.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a purpose-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing an ethical marketplace where buyers and sellers trust each other. We're more than one hundred years old with a start-up attitude.

Here is what you'll do:

Develop new business relationships by:

  • Identifying, researching, and pursuing large businesses that may qualify for BBB Accreditation.
  • Building relationships with CEOs, owners, presidents, and senior executives.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong pipeline through networking, referrals, business associations, and prospecting activities.
  • Communicating BBB's value through a consultative sales approach.
  • Guiding prospective Accredited Businesses through the accreditation and onboarding process.
  • Collaborating with leadership to refine and strengthen BBB's value proposition for large businesses.

Manage and retain strategic accounts by:

  • Serving as the primary relationship manager for assigned large Accredited Businesses.
  • Conducting regular business reviews, engagement meetings, and strategic discussions.
  • Developing retention strategies and proactively addressing renewal risks.
  • Identifying opportunities for sponsorships, multi-location engagement, partnerships, and business growth.
  • Ensuring Accredited Businesses maximize the value and benefits of their BBB membership.

Support organizational goals by:

  • Maintaining accurate CRM records and reporting on business development, retention, and account activity.
  • Following BBB policies and upholding the BBB Sales Ethics Pledge.
  • Participating in continuous improvement discussions to enhance BBB services and business engagement efforts.
  • Assisting with additional projects and responsibilities as needed.
Here is what will make you successful:

  • Five or more years of success in business development, consultative sales, account management, or related fields.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and networking abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in team and hybrid/remote work environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
Benefits include:
  • 37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday hybrid work schedule
  • Competitive salary plus opportunity for commission and bonuses
  • Health, dental, vision insurance options
  • Paid life insurance and long-term disability insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Career development resources and assistance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Parental leave
