Marching Band - Marching Band Assistant
The Marching Band Assistant is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to students within the program. This individual will work in coordination with all staff members as an Assistant. They will work closely with the Director to determine goals and direction of the program. The Marching Band Assistant is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student participating in their program for St. Francis High School.
Season runs May to Mid-July
Preferred:
Post Secondary Education with emphasis on Music Education and/or Performance.
Two years of experience in marching arts related instruction and activities.
Required:
Knowledge of the marching band activity and summer marching band competition format.
Successful candidates must also show competency in the following:
  • Proven experience in teaching and modeling character and responsible behavior
  • Positive, high energy, and committed
  • Partners well with parents, staff, community leaders, etc.
  • View success not just as competitive results, but also as helping participants improve as leaders and members of their community.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Implement the training, instruction, and preparation of performing students.
  • Follows and meets all expectations set forth by St. Francis Area Schools regarding the position of an assistant coach.
  • Coordinates the activities and responsibilities of Marching Band students.
  • Knows and administers the policies, procedures, and guidelines set forth in our district/conference and MSHSL policy publications, and to assist the director in carrying out the same guidelines set forth by St. Francis High School.
  • Helps to create a Marching Band Handbook and schedule informing all staff and student members of expectations at information meetings and recruiting events.
  • Provides for the health, safety, and well being of participants at practices, tours, public performances, and transportation to and from all events.
  • Assists the director in establishing a proper relationship with students, parents, school staff, and the media, publicizing the organization in a positive manner.
  • Works with the director in determining program equipment, supplies needs and how these items may be procured.
  • Helps to arrange for a post season gathering and informs the athletic administrative assistant of letter awards/certificates needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Activities Director and/or Marching Band Director.
