How much do backlog jobs pay per year?
What is a backlog?
A Backlog job typically refers to tasks, projects, or work items that have been delayed or accumulated over time, requiring resolution. In various industries, it can mean pending orders, unresolved service requests, or unfinished development tasks. Managing a backlog efficiently ensures workflow continuity and helps prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the backlog position, and why are they important?
The job title 'Backlog' is not recognized as a standard professional occupation; instead, it commonly refers to a prioritized list of tasks or features in project management and software development contexts. There are no core skills, certifications, or tools associated with 'Backlog' as a standalone job title. Consequently, soft skills and other qualifications cannot be outlined for this non-existent role. In professional environments, clear and established job titles ensure effective recruitment and role fulfillment.
What are the typical advancement opportunities for someone working as a backlog?
As 'Backlog' is not a recognized standalone job title in the professional world, there are no typical advancement opportunities directly associated with this role. However, individuals who manage product backlogs, such as Product Owners or Project Managers, may advance into higher product management or leadership positions. Career progression often depends on developing expertise in strategic planning, stakeholder management, and agile methodologies. If you are seeking a career in backlog management, look for roles such as Product Owner or Agile Project Manager for clearer career pathways.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Owner supporting one of our premier programs within the Mission Engineering and Platform & Security Integration (PSI) Agile Release Train (ART). In this role, you will lead story definition, backlog prioritization, and work planning for an Agile development team, ensuring user stories are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with program objectives. You will partner closely with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, software engineers, and systems engineers to maintain a healthy backlog that enables continuous delivery of mission-critical capabilities. This position is contingent upon contract award. The work is on-site in Aurora, CO.
What You Will Do

- Decompose capabilities and features into actionable user stories with clear acceptance criteria that support mission and customer objectives.
- Validate completed work against acceptance criteria and approve story completion.
- Partner with the Scrum Master, Product Manager, and engineering teams to prepare upcoming sprints while maintaining long-term backlog health.
- Coordinate cross-team dependencies with other Product Owners to ensure alignment across Agile Release Train (ART) teams.
- Support capability elaboration, sprint planning, Program Increment (PI) Planning, sprint reviews, and technical program milestones.

- Experience decomposing capabilities and features into user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria and maintaining Agile product backlogs.
- Experience working in Agile development environments, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and Program Increment (PI) Planning.
- Active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience supporting Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Agile Release Trains (ARTs), or other large-scale Agile development environments.
- Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, Systems Engineers, and software development teams.
- Experience translating customer, operator, or mission needs into prioritized user stories and backlog items.
- Experience supporting systems engineering, mission capability development, or platform-based architectures.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional dependencies across integration, cybersecurity, platform, and software engineering teams.
- Experience using Agile collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar backlog management platforms.
- Experience supporting technical reviews, customer demonstrations, Program Increment (PI) Planning, and release planning activities.
