SierTeK Ltd. is seeking a Backend Tester to support a remote opportunity (with preference for candidates based in Dayton, OH or the Washington DC area).

Position Overview Section

The Backend Tester will work remotely, focusing on the testing and validation of backend data changes across ETL workflows, databases, and APIs. This role is responsible for ensuring that data-related changes meet business requirements, maintain data integrity, and perform as expected across integrated systems. The Backend Tester will collaborate with developers, data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to design and execute effective test coverage, identify issues, and support resolution efforts. A strong understanding of backend systems, data movement, and regression validation is essential.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborate with the team to analyze and define system and data requirements, identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Develop, maintain, and execute test cases for backend data changes, including ETL, database, and API testing
  • Validate data transformation logic, data movement, schema changes, and interface behavior across source and target systems
  • Design test approaches to ensure adequate coverage of backend changes and regression impact
  • Identify, document, and track defects, data inconsistencies, and integration issues through resolution
  • Create and maintain test data, test evidence, and supporting test documentation
  • Work closely with developers, data engineers, and analysts to ensure backend changes align with business and technical requirements
  • Verify data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and traceability across systems
  • Support testing of new functionality, enhancements, and production fixes within an Agile delivery environment
  • Participate in code and solution review discussions as needed to improve testability and quality
  • Understand operational and system views to inform testing priorities and risk areas
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, methods, and documentation quality

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 4 years of directly relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience as a backend tester, QA analyst, or similar testing role
  • Experience testing ETL processes, database changes, and APIs
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and tools
  • Familiarity with SQL for backend validation
  • Strong documentation, analysis, and communication skills
  • Ability to support Agile team delivery and coordinate with distributed stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of backend testing, including ETL, database, and API validation
  • Familiarity with testing methodologies, test design, and defect lifecycle management
  • Ability to analyze data flows and identify issues in backend processing and integrations
  • Understanding of SQL and database concepts for test validation
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience supporting code modernization and refactoring efforts is a plus
