Job description

Job Title: Technical Writer (Instructional Designer, Publication, Author)

Location: Wichita, KS (Onsite- 5 days a week)

Hire Type: Full-time

NOTE: Experience with an instructional designer and publication work, a technical writer from other domains, like manufacturing, mechanical, industrial, engineering, will work (Big No to IT, finance, pharma, medical industry); Someone who has past experience with universities or teaching experience, and technical writing experience will also work.

Job Description:

  • Create and revise maintenance documents (maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals, non-destructive testing manuals, tool & equipment manuals and component maintenance manuals) using engineering database information, engineering drawings, functional tests and other sources to provide customers with detailed aircraft continued airworthiness instructions.
  • Submit work packages to create illustrations that will accompany maintenance document instructions for use in technical publications.
  • Conduct self and peer quality checks of completed work packages for accuracy and consistency.
  • Follow established procedures and improve procedures as necessary.
  • Collaborate with core teams, engineers and customer service representatives to validate maintenance document procedures.
  • Degreed in an aviation related area preferred or equivalent experience authoring technical documents.
  • A&P license or military aviation maintenance experience with Technical Orders a plus.
  • Requires an understanding of engineering data, with an ability to research and analyze engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience and knowledge of aircraft operation, aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance practices, manufacturing and GAMA/ATA guidelines.
  • Experience using SGML/XML, Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker or equivalent tool in authoring environment.
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
