Job description

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Oversee and maintain the chrome plating operation for the company's auto shop. Prepare and chrome plate various parts for classic and historical automobiles or motorcycles as directed by the Auto Shop Supervisor. Maintain all chrome plating equipment in good working order and notify Auto Shop Supervisor of any issues regarding equipment function.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review work orders and select appropriate materials for each chrome plating job.
• Prepare items for plating by stripping, filling, and sanding parts to be plated.
• Adjust and calibrate plating equipment including, but not limited to, rectifiers, pumps, and filters as needed.
• Employ wide variety of hand and power tools including hoists, drills, grinders, buffers, and sanders.
• Perform routine checks to ensure chrome plating line remains in good working order, i.e. making sure tanks are level, rectifiers are functioning, and pumps are operating properly.
• Prepare, finish, and clean/polish chrome plating parts.
• Operate the chrome plating lines, including the mixing, regeneration, and analysis of plating baths.
• Operate electroplating equipment.
• Used micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges, and CMM to perform precision work.
• Produce show quality finishes on chrome and stainless parts.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Conduct quality checks on completed work to ensure it meets the desired specifications.
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends, specifically regarding any new materials or methods used in the repair work.
• Comply with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations.
• Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
• Follow SugarCreek safety rules and procedures.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required, or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years' experience in chrome plating role required; automotive plating experience preferred.
CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: None.
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• Possess extensive knowledge of all aspects of chrome plating.
• Possess excellent chrome plating skills.
• Know how to read service/repair manuals and work orders.
• Able to safely and proficiently use shop tools (both hand and power).
• Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Know how to strictly follow any and all safety procedures and policies in place.
• Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Possess strong self-motivation and exemplary work ethic.
• Possess adequate hand dexterity to manipulate or move objects.
• Able to work well with others in a team environment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with typical chrome plating positions, including mostly standing with some sitting/walking required. Other physical activity like using stairs or moving items weighing less than 30lbs is required. Some travel may be required in between plants.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Some travel to other locations is required.
Most work is performed in an auto repair shop with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery. Safety wear is required, including gloves, safety glasses, face shields, ear plugs. Little work is performed in a comfortable, office environment. Very little work is performed outside of the auto shop facility.
