AUTOMOTIVE GENERAL SALES MANAGER (GSM)Lead. Coach. Desk. Drive Results.

Are you a proven Automotive General Sales Manager who knows how to build high-performing teams, maximize gross, increase volume, and create an outstanding customer experience?

We are seeking an experienced, results-driven General Sales Manager (GSM) to lead the front end of our dealership. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on leader with a proven track record of success in new and used vehicle operations who is ready to continue growing into executive dealership leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all New and Used Vehicle Sales operations.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop Sales Managers, Finance Managers, Internet Managers, BDC personnel, and Sales Consultants.

  • Desk deals while maximizing both front-end gross profit and vehicle volume.

  • Work closely with the Finance Department to maximize product penetration and profitability.

  • Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and retain top-performing sales professionals.

  • Establish daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual sales objectives.

  • Monitor CRM activity to ensure proper follow-up and lead management.

  • Manage inventory levels, aging, pricing strategies, and market competitiveness.

  • Analyze sales reports, gross profit, inventory turn, expense control, and departmental performance.

  • Ensure exceptional customer satisfaction and online reputation management.

  • Maintain compliance with manufacturer requirements and federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Work directly with the General Manager to develop dealership growth strategies.

  • Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and performance.

Required Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of current Automotive General Sales Manager (GSM) experience in a franchised new vehicle dealership.

  • Previous Finance & Insurance (F&I) experience required.

  • Strong desking experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of:

    • New Vehicle Sales

    • Used Vehicle Sales

    • Finance & Insurance Operations

    • Inventory Management

    • Sales Forecasting

    • Performance Metrics

    • CRM Management

  • Experience with major dealership systems including:

    • Reynolds & Reynolds

    • ADP/CDK

    • Dealertrack

    • eLeads

    • VinSolutions

    • DealerSocket

  • Strong understanding of digital retailing and internet lead management.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, coaching, and organizational skills.

  • Proven history of increasing sales volume, profitability, CSI, and employee retention.

Preferred Brand Experience

Experience with one or more of the following franchise manufacturers is highly preferred:

  • Nissan

  • Honda

  • Ford

  • Chevrolet

  • Dodge/Ram/Chrysler/Jeep

  • Other major domestic or import franchise dealerships
