Job description

Abcon Automation, Inc. — Controls and Automation Engineer

Ready to take your engineering career to the next level? Abcon Automation, Inc. is searching for a driven, hands-on Controls and Automation Engineer to join our team. If you thrive on solving tough problems, designing smarter systems, and working side-by-side with both customers and technical teams, you’ll fit right in.

About the Role

As a Controls and Automation Engineer at Abcon Automation, you’ll play a key part in designing, specifying, upgrading, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems for plant equipment. You’ll work closely with mechanical and maintenance teams to analyze the root causes of equipment issues, propose corrective actions, and ensure our customers systems run smoothly. You’ll also interact directly with our customers, providing fast, reliable solutions and building strong relationships.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and specify controls for new equipment or modifications, taking projects from concept through start-up and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic controls for existing equipment—when something breaks, you’ll be the go-to expert.
  • Modify PLCs, drives, and control electronics to support new products or production techniques.
  • Evaluate current controls and network systems, recommending and implementing upgrades as needed.
  • Oversee and direct the work of assistants and helpers as projects demand.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, always following company policies and safety procedures.
  • Work full time, with the flexibility to occasionally take on call-ins, extended shifts, or weekends as needed.

What You Bring

  • Deep expertise in PLC ladder logic design and troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience with automation equipment such as Rockwell, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, Mitsubishi, or Omron.
  • Strong background in motor controllers and VFDs (Allen Bradley, Parker, ABB), as well as motion controllers, servos, and steppers.
  • Experience with SCADA software platforms like FactoryTalk View (ME/SE) and Ignition.
  • Exceptional electrical troubleshooting skills and the ability to stay cool under pressure.
  • Solid prioritization skills—you can juggle multiple projects without dropping the ball.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a self-starter attitude.
  • Physical ability to lift 20–25 lbs and work safely in a manufacturing environment.

Why Join Abcon?

We’re not just another automation company. At Abcon, you’ll be part of a collaborative team tackling challenging, high-impact projects. You’ll have the chance to flex your technical skills, learn new things, and see the direct results of your work in a hands-on environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Stable 8-hour shift schedule, with some flexibility as needed
