Your role is primarily administrative, designed to streamline the submissions process for patients and secure any necessary pre-authorizations. You verify coverage and communicate with medical facilities to resolve any discrepancies. Responsibilities include staying current with insurance requirements, maintaining logs of denied claims, and problem-solving cases as needed. Other duties include follow-up on missing or inaccurate information and coordination with clinical staff and physicians. Most employers prefer candidates with previous medical insurance experience. Work is typically full-time in an office setting.

What does an authorization coordinator do?

An Authorization Coordinator is responsible for obtaining and verifying pre-authorization or pre-certification for medical procedures, treatments, or medications from insurance companies. They work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance representatives to ensure all required documentation is submitted and approvals are received in a timely manner.
