An audit associate provides technical and clerical support for a lead auditor to help examine and verify an organization’s processes or financial information. Under the supervision of an audit department, your duties as an associate auditor include planning and carrying out aspects of an internal audit aimed at improving the efficiency or financial health of a company. In addition to providing accounting assistance, you may conduct interviews with employees and create reports of findings for the auditing department. Qualifications for a career as an audit associate include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics, or a related field, as well as relevant job experience. Audit associates also need excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and advanced math ability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an audit associate?

To thrive as an Audit Associate, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, analytical skills, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Job description

Senior Associate – Accounting, Audit & Tax

Location: Wilmington, DE
Experience Level: 2+ Years of Public Accounting Experience

We are partnered with a well‑established CPA firm that provides accounting, audit, and tax services to a diverse client base. The firm is looking to add a Senior Associate to its team—someone who enjoys taking ownership of engagements, mentoring junior staff, and continuing to grow professionally in a collaborative environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a public accounting professional who wants exposure to a broad range of work and direct interaction with firm leadership.

What You'll Do
  • Perform diversified accounting, audit, and tax assignments with minimal supervision
  • Participate in planning and scheduling client engagements
  • Prepare, review, and organize workpapers in accordance with professional standards
  • Perform audit procedures, including determining testing scope and selecting transactions
  • Draft financial statements, footnotes, and audit reports
  • Assist with identifying tax planning opportunities and communicating ideas to leadership
  • Prepare client correspondence and contribute to management letters
  • Review work prepared by junior team members and provide coaching and feedback
  • Act as a mentor and support the development of less experienced staff
  • Maintain strong client relationships and meet deadlines and budget expectations
  • Continue progressing professionally by working toward CPA completion, if not already licensed
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of public accounting experience with increasing responsibility
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA license or actively working toward CPA completion
  • Strong understanding of accounting, audit, and tax fundamentals
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Professional communication skills and comfort interacting with clients
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Why This Opportunity
  • Broad exposure across accounting, audit, and tax—not siloed work
  • Opportunity to lead engagements and mentor junior staff
  • Direct access to managers, directors, and partners
  • Supportive environment that values development and long‑term growth
  • Stable firm with a strong reputation and collaborative culture

This role is ideal for someone who wants to continue building technical expertise while taking on a more leadership‑oriented position within public accounting.
