Job Title: Audio Visual Technician

Job Description

The Audio Visual Technician supports the setup, operation, installation, and maintenance of audio, video, and multimedia systems for events, meetings, and productions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys hands-on technical work, and takes pride in delivering high-quality A/V experiences for live and virtual events.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot audio and video equipment for live events, presentations, conferences, and recordings.
  • Manage cameras, microphones, projectors, switchers, mixers, digital playback systems, and related A/V components.
  • Perform routine maintenance, testing, and calibration of A/V equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Install and configure A/V systems, cabling, and related hardware in meeting rooms, event spaces, and construction job sites.
  • Support virtual and hybrid events using platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or similar video conferencing technologies.
  • Collaborate with event organizers, presenters, and internal teams to understand technical requirements and deliver seamless A/V experiences.
  • Respond quickly to technical issues during events and provide real-time solutions to minimize disruptions.
  • Maintain inventory of A/V equipment, track usage, and document system configurations and event setups.
  • Work safely and effectively on construction job sites, following site protocols and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure professional appearance and conduct in client-facing environments while representing the technical team.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience as an A/V technician or in a similar technical role supporting audio and video systems.
  • Strong understanding of audio mixing, video switching, signal flow, and basic networking concepts.
  • Experience with A/V installation, including low-voltage wiring, cabling, and hardware setup (CAT5, CAT6, and related infrastructure).
  • Ability to troubleshoot A/V systems and video conferencing setups effectively and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with professional A/V equipment such as Shure, Yamaha, Blackmagic, Crestron, and Extron.
  • Knowledge of systems controls and video conferencing technologies.
  • Ability to lift and move A/V equipment and materials as needed on job sites.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure during live events.

Work Environment

This role is primarily based on construction job sites, often in areas without heating or air conditioning, with projects mainly located in Dane County. You will typically work as part of a small team of 1–4 technicians. Standard hours are approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with 8–10 hour days and occasional nights and weekends depending on project requirements and your availability. The dress code consists of clean jeans or work pants and clean T-shirts or long-sleeve shirts that are work-appropriate and free of holes, as you will be visible to clients on a daily basis. Personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest, is provided. You will regularly work with professional A/V equipment, low-voltage cabling, and construction-related tools in a field-based, hands-on technical environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
