Job description

Rycon Construction is an employee-owned company (ESOP) that provides construction management, general contracting, design-build, and program management services nationwide. An ENR Top 400 Contractor, ENR Top 100 Green Contractor, and BD+C Top 150 Contractor with nine offices, Rycon specializes in new construction, renovations, and adaptive reuse projects. From large-scale developments to small, fast-track interior fit-outs, Rycon is equipped to deliver a comprehensive range of services across all project types. Rycon’s portfolio includes projects in aviation, healthcare, higher education, industrial/warehouse, commercial, multi-unit residential, student housing, food service/dining, data centers/mission critical, retail, financial, self-storage, government/municipality, and LEED facilities. We have an in-house Architectural Finishes & Specialty Fabrication Division that ships/installs nationally.  

Rycon is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager at our Atlanta office. 


What you will do:

  • Develop and implement strategic business development plans to expand market share in core and emerging markets. 
  • Identify and pursue high-value business leads across multiple construction sectors. 
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key decision-makers, clients, and industry influencers. 
  • Lead client engagement efforts, including pre-selling activities, client meetings, and proposal presentations. 
  • Manage the proposal development process, collaborating with internal teams to craft compelling responses that align with client needs and Rycon’s capabilities. 
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to inform strategic initiatives. 
  • Partner with senior leadership to assess Go/No-Go opportunities and provide insights to support decision-making. 
  • Oversee CRM management, ensuring accurate tracking of leads, proposals, and pipeline activity. 
  • Serve as a representative of Rycon Construction at industry events, networking functions, and community engagements. 
  • Drive targeted marketing efforts to enhance Rycon’s brand visibility within key markets. 

Secondary Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Mentor and guide junior business development staff, sharing industry insights and best practices. 
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify potential upselling or cross-selling opportunities. 
  • Support preconstruction and bidding activities by connecting project teams with potential clients and partners. 
  • Develop strategic partnerships with designers, subcontractors, and suppliers to support business growth. 
  • Deliver industry presentations and client briefings to position Rycon as a trusted market leader. 


What You Will Need to Be Successful: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, or related field. 
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in business development within the construction industry, with a proven track record of successfully securing projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships in sectors such as industrial, higher education, and healthcare. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to executive audiences. 
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other business development tools. 
  • Highly strategic, with strong business acumen and negotiation skills. 
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and capable of working independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 


Additional Attributes Preferred: 

  • Existing network of contacts within the construction, industrial, and higher education sectors. 
  • Active participation in industry associations and community organizations. 
  • Experience in leading business development strategy sessions and presenting market analysis to senior leadership.
