Position Summary

Greets, instructs, directs patients and visitors.ย  Answers incoming phones, directs calls.

Reports directly to the Front Office Supervisor.

Typical Physical Demands

Work may require standing/sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and other office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens and to work in an environment which can be very stressful.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed in a normal office environment. Work may be stressful at times due to heavy patient load, phone call load, and other assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Greets patients in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. Verifies patient appointments, prints paperwork and directs patients to registration.
  2. Answers incoming calls, screens/directs calls to appropriate personnel or pages.
  3. Assists with receiving and logging payments from walk-in patients.
  4. Can be responsible for opening or closing the clinic.
  5. Tracks timeliness of patient arrival.
  6. Maintains work area and lobby in neat and orderly manner.
  7. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  8. Register patients as needed.
  9. Responsible for front desk cash box.
  10. Order front desk office supplies.
  11. Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned.ย 

Position may include extended hours and Saturdays.

Performance Requirements
  • Knowledge of billing office and procedures and knowledge of radiology exams to provide information to patients, physicians, vendors, and other staff members.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine.
  • Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and the public.
Education

High school diploma or GED

Experience
  1. Prefer one yearโ€™s work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  2. General office knowledge preferably in a medical office setting
  3. Computer experience
  4. Multi-line phone experience preferred.
