Job description

The Sr. Associate Content Contributor position exists to make creative contributions to reviews, articles, books, blogs, videos, radio features, social media, and/or curricula for a particular audience.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reviews entertainment content in various media, potentially including movies, books, television, music, video games, YouTube channels, and social media apps
  • Participates in creation of content on various platforms, potentially including writing for the web, video for YouTube and social media, and radio recording
  • Creates ancillary content (polls, CTAs, infographics, etc.) as needed and as assigned
  • Attends movie review screenings
  • Participates in video conversations as assigned; potentially leads video segments as assigned
  • Interviews experts and celebrities, both within Focus and in the mainstream, for written, audio and video contexts
  • Participates in ongoing strategy and tactical discussions about how best to produce, publish and maximize the impact of created content across all platforms (primary web sites and ancillary social media promotion)
  • Researches keywords, trending topics, and competition for search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Produces new iterations of legacy content or recent content with the guidance of SEO metrics and analytics
  • Edits and/or rewrites manuscripts as appropriate, organizing facts, interview quotes, and other material into the most compelling flow
  • Edits manuscripts for other members of the team as needed
  • Creates original copy
  • Proofreads copy at various stages of development
  • Publishes written content to various web platforms, currently WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, and Social Studio
  • Maintains currency with target audience through extensive reading, personal contact, and broad-based research
  • Interfaces with authors and leaders on issues
  • Consults with Orthodoxy and legal counsel on content as required
  • Interacts with audience through electronic and interpersonal means (answering emails; web-board communication, etc.)

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Potential opportunities to speak at conferences on issues such as entertainment, technology, and media discernment
  • Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family

Knowledge/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or Journalism (or related field)
  • General content management system (CMS) experience required; knowledgeable in website content best practices and content management frameworks; WordPress and SiteCore proficiency preferred
  • 3-5 years of writing and editing experience to include content management, project management of content editing or similar functions
  • Working knowledge of Focus on the Family’s mission, values, and objectives
  • Computer proficiency in a variety of Microsoft Office Tools (required: Word, Excel, Adobe, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with an image management system (Canva, etc.) or equivalent preferred
  • Familiar with AP style
  • Familiar with multiple social media platforms
  • Basic HTML knowledge beneficial

Pay Range: $60,324 to $72,258
