What is an associate product manager?

You can find associate product manager jobs in nearly every industry. Associate product managers help with the development and marketing of products in collaboration with senior product managers. As an associate product manager, your job duties are to conduct market research, generate product plans, and check for product issues. You need excellent teamwork and communication skills to succeed in a career as an associate product manager. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, management, or a related field and previous experience in your industry.

What is an associate product manager?

An Associate Product Manager (APM) is an entry-level role in product management, responsible for assisting product managers in developing, launching, and improving products. APMs often conduct market research, help define product requirements, collaborate with engineering and design teams, and track product performance. This role is designed to provide foundational experience in product management and often serves as a stepping stone to more senior product roles. APMs work under the guidance of senior product managers and play a key role in executing the product vision.

How does an associate product manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product launch?

As an Associate Product Manager (APM), you'll work closely with engineering, design, marketing, and sales teams, especially during product launches. Your role often involves gathering requirements, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring everyone is informed about timelines and deliverables. You may facilitate meetings, clarify the product vision, and help resolve any blockers that arise. This collaborative environment helps you develop strong communication and problem-solving skills while providing exposure to multiple facets of the product development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Product Manager, you need a solid understanding of product development, market research, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, SQL, and analytics platforms—as well as Agile methodologies—is typically expected. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and cross-functional collaboration skills help you stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for successfully guiding product features from conception to launch and ensuring alignment with customer needs and business objectives.

Job description

About Us:

At AssistIQ we are dedicated to creating a more efficient and transparent healthcare supply chain by fixing one of the core problems - providers lack accurate data and insights on their supply and implant usage. Our AI-driven software solution provides highly accurate, seamless capture of supply and implant usage in real-time, and generates actionable insights to healthcare systems, enabling better revenue capture and reduced waste, ultimately leading to better value of care and better outcomes for patients.

About the Role

As an associate product manager, you will be a key member of the product team working closely with our engineering teams to ensure that we are designing, building and delivering high quality products for our customers. We are looking for a highly hands-on Associate Product Manager who can turn product priorities and customer needs into clear, executable plans for Engineering and QA.

Our solution is used in clinical settings, we expect you to be comfortable in a hospital environment  and interact with both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.

Your ultimate goal is to make it easy for our customers to adopt and use our solution. To be successful, you will be adept at juggling responsibilities in parallel, anticipating operational challenges, and building strong relationships. You are someone willing to roll up their sleeves and work in the details. This is not a role for someone who only facilitates meetings or works at a high strategic level.

We operate as one team. The right person focuses on solving problems, establishing clear accountability, and improving outcomes. We expect you to comfortably move between clinical teams (e.g. nurses, physicians), administrative stakeholders (e.g. finance, procurement), hospital IT teams, third party vendors and internal teams. Teamwork, professionalism, confidentiality, project management, understanding of software development and communication are essential.

Given the dynamic nature of startup life, the role of the Associate Product Manager is dynamic with priorities evolving regularly. There may occasionally be critical launches, releases, or production issues that require additional effort beyond a standard workweek. The successful candidate will be flexible and willing to step in when the situation requires it.

Responsibilities
  • Lead backlog grooming and sprint planning.
  • Maintain a detailed, prioritized backlog at least two to three sprints ahead.
  • Write clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and edge cases in Linear.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and technical leads to break initiatives into executable sprint-level work.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, QA, Design, Implementation, Support, and Customer Success to identify dependencies and unblock delivery.
  • Partner with the Product Manager to translate quarterly priorities into realistic execution plans.
  • Partner with Technical Operations, Customer Success and Implementation teams to invest
  • Monitor sprint progress and communicate risks, scope changes, and expected slips early.
  • Help the team adjust when customer needs, production issues, or priorities change during a sprint.
  • Clearly communicate how new requests affect sprint commitments, release dates, and the quarterly roadmap.
  • Coordinate release readiness, including QA status, release scope, release notes, rollout timing, and cross-functional communication.
  • Support retrospectives and help improve planning, requirements, testing, and release processes.
  • Use AI tools effectively to accelerate requirements writing, research, workflow analysis, prototyping, documentation, test-case development, and other day-to-day product activities.
  • Apply good judgment when using AI, including validating outputs and handling confidential customer or company information appropriately.

Requirements

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong understanding of Agile development, sprint planning, backlog management, and release coordination.
