Novelis is seeking an Associate Operations Leader to support our Can Business Unit in Warren, OH. This role is responsible for leading a manufacturing shift in a fast-paced slitting and coating operation.

The Team Leader plays a critical role in driving safety, operational excellence, quality, and team performance, while supervising a crew of approximately 12–20 hourly employees. This position works rotating shifts and serves as the on-shift leader for production operations.

ResponsibilitiesSafety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment at all times
  • Monitor crew behaviors and plant conditions to address risks proactively
  • Participate in accident investigations and Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) initiatives
  • Administer first aid as needed
Operations & Leadership
  • Lead daily production activities to meet operational targets
  • Direct and support hourly employees on shift
  • Manage scheduling, overtime, vacations, and attendance
  • Ensure accurate production reporting and documentation
  • Troubleshoot downtime, equipment, and quality issues
  • Coordinate closely with Maintenance on repairs and preventive maintenance
Quality & Customer Focus
  • Ensure adherence to process control plans and quality standards
  • Address and communicate product or process concerns
  • Reinforce accountability for product quality with team members
Continuous Improvement & Utilization
  • Drive improvements in machine performance and efficiency
  • Identify preventative maintenance opportunities
  • Partner with operators, maintenance, and engineering to enhance processes
Recovery & Waste Reduction
  • Reduce material loss and improve yield
  • Monitor processes to prevent quality issues and production disruptions
Delivery Performance
  • Support on-time production and customer needs
  • Communicate production risks and constraints effectively
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
Authority & Decision-Making

This position has authority to make real-time decisions related to:

  • Employee safety and immediate risk mitigation
  • Staffing and disciplinary actions
  • Production quality and delivery performance
Provide recommendations for:
  • Equipment and process improvements
  • Safety and quality enhancements
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of Manufacturing environment experience
  • Union environment experience
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems
  • Ability to handle employee relations matters professionally and fairly
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Rotating shift schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed)
  • Must be available for off-hours support and emergency calls when required

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience

Novelis’ Warren facility is located in northeast Ohio— approximately an hour drive from Cleveland and an hour and a half from Pittsburgh. The facility built in 1965 applies coating to rolled aluminum beverage can sheet. The sheet is used to make aluminum beverage can ends (lids) for global soft drink beer and sparkling water brands. Warren showcases several high-end cultural venues including the Warren Community Amphitheater and Packard Music Hall.
