The Associate Creative Director, Design and Events is a newly created role in McKesson's in-house design studio, reporting into the Sr. Creative Director, Design Studio and Brand Systems Architect, that will provide hands-on creative direction for key business events and projects, working closely with business stakeholders to elevate McKesson. This role requires a strategic creative leader who can create impactful design systems that help to differentiate McKesson in a competitive market, leverage AI to streamline creative workflows and embed AI and automation into creative workflows to accelerate output, reduce repetitive production tasks, and free the team for higher-value creative thinking. S/he provides clear feedback that advances the work with fewer rounds of revisions and takes ownership to ensure the final deliverables reflect our standard of excellence. The Associate Creative Director will manage the studio's junior and mid-level talent, who are part of a pool of design talent who are part of a pool of designers responsible for executing and delivering creative projects on brand and on time.
S/he will partner with the Creative Director, Design Studio and Technology Innovation, and Marketing Operations to assign design pool projects and evaluate workflows based on priorities and design expertise. In doing so, s/he will help to set standards for responsible, effective AI use across the design studio, coaching designers on prompt craft, AI-assisted ideation, and automated production-and provide clear feedback on creative executions under his/her direction.

This player-coach role is also responsible for hands-on work supporting Sr. Creative Director and Creative Director projects with strategic leadership overseeing/providing feedback to designers on select brand and key event creative projects. To be successful in this role, the Associate Creative Director must be a strategic partner and leading stakeholder for our Corporate Events team-building and maintaining trust, serving as their go-to design thought partner and elevating design systems that are on brand and have a wow factor.

This role will sit on the VP, Corporate Brand and Creative Services' extended leadership team to advance department and team annual planning, priorities and goals.

This role must be within driving distance to McKesson's Headquarters in Las Colinas, TX, for Conference Center events as needed in addition to periodic in-office meetings to connect with leaders and work with junior talent in person. Minimal travel expected 10%, which may include events and site visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the go-to creative partner and design lead for key events, in partnership with Sr. Creative Director and Segment Creative Directors.
  • Champion and activate AI, technology and automation in partnership with studio leadership.
  • Manage and mentor designers and early-career talent, fostering creativity, accountability, and growth.
  • Develop and execute high-impact event design concepts, including environmental graphics, signage, presentations and immersive brand experiences; provide actionable inspiration and feedback to elevate deliverables and reduce rounds of revision.
  • Manage and/or provide onsite event design support, coordinating studio delegations as part of the planning and creative development process.
  • Provide post-event design analysis and learnings to create data-informed recommendations for future events and design systems.
  • Lead select brand projects, ensuring alignment with visual identity and objectives.
  • Collaborate with marketing, communications and business partners to deliver high-impact, on-brand creative solutions.
  • Ensure clear priorities and resource allocation to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Monitor industry design trends, emerging technologies, and evolving team needs to keep McKesson's event creative cutting edge.
  • Partner with department Senior Creative Director and Creative Director to leverage in-house and freelance talent for peak workloads and specialized needs, with visibility to budgets and forecasts.
  • Support annual and quarterly planning meetings with stakeholders and business partners to align priorities and forecast design needs to ensure creative support flexes with demand.
  • Work closely with Project Management and Operations teams to align timelines, resources, and deliverables to maximize studio team impact.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

9+ years of relevant experience in ad agency, marketing communications, and/or client service, either agency or in-house

Critical Skills

  • Design event leadership experience; Creative problem-solver with a strong attention to detail and design quality
  • Strong planning and people skills are essential for empowering multiple project workstreams and stakeholders, from start to finish.
  • A proactive attitude, identifying challenges and presenting solutions, with a deep understanding of how to navigate a highly matrixed organization.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and familiarity with design workflows and project management tools.
  • Agency and in-house design experience, print/digital/ video/event production
  • Experience managing agency partners, vendors, and freelancers is imperative.
  • Executive presence acumen; ability to lead and influence while maintaining composure under pressure; ability to guide teams to successfully deliver on commitments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Workfront, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, and Copilot knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience applying AI and automation to creative production-generative tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly or similar) and workflow automation
  • Proven ability to build and scale AI-enabled workflows and coach teams on effective, responsible adoption.
  • Leader who can develop early-career design talent

BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
