Job description

JOB FUNCTION: The Buyer is responsible for executing purchasing activities, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of materials to meet business needs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, and thrives in a fast-paced, operationally focused environment. This role is an individual contributor and works on-site at our Solon, OH headquarters.
JOB DUTIES
  • Execute purchase orders in alignment with demand requirements and inventory targets.
  • Monitor open orders and proactively manage delivery schedules to ensure on-time fulfillment.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers to confirm pricing, lead times, and order status.
  • Resolve discrepancies related to shipments, pricing, invoicing, and quality issues.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance and Engineering teams.
  • Maintain accurate and current purchasing data within ERP system.
  • Support cost savings initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including delays or shortages.
  • Assist in sourcing activities as needed, including RFQs and supplier evaluations.
  • Performs other duties and activities in support of the business as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Demonstrates strong mathematical and analytical skills; and is proactive in problem-solving.
  • Has solid understanding of negotiation, purchasing and inventory management principles.
  • Communicates effectively both in writing and in-person; Can build and foster relationships with suppliers and our internal stakeholders.
  • Has strong organizational ability with attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Infor, or similar).
  • Shows ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Required: Meets one of the following
    • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance or other related field from an accredited institution.
    • Associate's Degree in Business, Finance or related field from an accredited institution AND 3 years of related experience.
    • 6 years of experience as a Buyer in lieu of a degree.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
