What is an associate broker?

Associate brokers are licensed real estate professionals who have completed additional education and licensing requirements beyond those of a standard real estate agent. While they hold a broker's license, associate brokers typically work under the supervision of a managing or principal broker within a real estate firm. Their responsibilities often include assisting clients with buying, selling, or leasing properties, negotiating contracts, and sometimes overseeing other agents. However, unlike principal brokers, they usually do not own or manage the real estate brokerage themselves.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate broker?

To thrive as an Associate Broker, you need strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of real estate or insurance markets, and typically a relevant license or certification. Familiarity with CRM software, MLS systems, and document management tools is often required. Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and client service skills help set top performers apart. These abilities are crucial for managing transactions efficiently, building trust, and achieving optimal outcomes for clients.

What are some typical challenges faced by associate brokers, and how can they effectively overcome them?

Associate Brokers often encounter challenges such as building a reliable client base, staying updated with market trends, and managing multiple transactions simultaneously. To overcome these, it's important to develop strong networking skills, invest time in ongoing professional education, and utilize technology for efficient transaction management. Collaborating closely with senior brokers and support staff also helps streamline processes and provides valuable mentorship opportunities. Maintaining excellent communication and organization will set you up for success in this competitive field.

Job description

Ignite your potential. Impact what matters.

Hi, we're HUB-a network of doers with diverse stories and a shared goal to support our clients and communities. To do it, we believe in supporting each other, because great work happens when people come together, and that means building a team where anyone can spark an idea, and where everyone can make a difference. Where pushing ourselves forward helps us give more to others.

When you partner with us, you're at the center of a vast network of risk, insurance, employee benefits, retirement and wealth management specialists that bring clarity to a changing world with tailored solutions and unrelenting advocacy - so you're ready for tomorrow.

The Opportunity:

As a Junior Insurance Advisor at HUB, you are the first point of contact for clients looking to protect what matters most to them - their home, their vehicle, and everything in between. This is a client-facing role where you will manage an active book of business, handle new client inquiries, process renewals, and make sure every client leaves the conversation with the right coverage and a clear understanding of what they have.

This is a full-time, in-office role based in Grande Prairie. It is a fast-paced environment with a steady volume of client interactions, and it suits someone who is organized, technically accurate, and genuinely good with people.

What You'll Do:

  • Advise new and existing clients on personal lines coverage, including habitational, automobile, and travel insurance

  • Quote, bind, and process new policies and endorsements accurately and in a timely manner

  • Conduct renewals and proactively reach out to clients to review their coverage as their needs change

  • Identify gaps in coverage and recommend appropriate solutions, including bundling opportunities

  • Handle client inquiries, policy changes, and coverage questions with professionalism and efficiency

  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation in the broker management system

  • Work collaboratively with your team and escalate complex or high-risk files appropriately

  • Stay current on product knowledge, carrier appetite, and industry changes

What We're Looking For:

  • Active Level 1 General Insurance License or willingness to obtain is required

  • Candidates newer to the industry are encouraged to apply if they have a strong service background and are committed to building their insurance career

  • Solid working knowledge of personal lines products and coverage fundamentals

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple client files simultaneously without errors

  • Clear, confident communication skills: you can explain coverage in plain language and handle a difficult conversation with professionalism

  • Experience with a broker management system (Applied Epic or similar) is an asset

  • Comfortable working in a high-volume, client-driven environment where priorities shift throughout the day

Why Join HUB?

  • An exceptional, welcoming, and inclusive company culture.

  • Excellent compensation, benefits, RRSP match, referral incentives, and company perks.

  • Work flexibility.

  • Paid educational training and vast learning opportunities.

  • Room for advancement and growth within the organization.

  • Paid day off for your birthday - we want to celebrate you!
