Description
The Division of Academic Affairs invites applications for its Dean position in the College of Health Sciences. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and provides leadership for the College and exercises responsibility for its academic and administrative operations; including budgets, personnel, programs, and physical facilities. The ideal candidate is a strategic visionary and forward-thinking innovative leader with an astute understanding of the public health landscape and the higher education enterprise.
Examples of Duties
  • Areas of responsibility include establishing the overall direction, strategic planning, and setting priorities for the College.
  • Managing budgets and resources within the College.
  • Advancing the College's programs and learning opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Upholding academic standards.
  • Fundraising.
  • Strengthening faculty scholarship and research.
  • Actively participating in the Academic Affairs Council and in discussions of institutional planning, policy, and assessment.
  • Serving in a key oversight role in accreditation, program review, and other processes that are important for continuous improvement of the College's activities and growth.
  • Ensuring that the policies, guidelines, and regulations established by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, the affiliated accreditation agencies, and the Division of Academic Affairs are followed.

Typical Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (Dr.PH, Ph.D., Sc.D., MD/Dr.PH, JD/MPH or MD/MPH) in Public Health or a closely related field of expertise pertaining to public health education and practice.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful administrative and management experience as a Chairperson, Associate/Assistant Dean, or other comparable administrative and leadership experience.
  • A strong record of scholarly, creative, and professional experiences.
  • Budget management experience.
  • (Preferred experience/qualification): experience in accreditation policies, requirements or processes is preferred, preferably with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), American Speech-Language, and Hearing Association Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (ASHA CAA), and the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
