The Associate Dean for Dental Education and Academic Affairs provides leadership for the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the dental curriculum and supports compliance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements. This position collaborates with faculty and administration to ensure a coordinated educational experience for dental students.

Summary
The Associate Dean for Dental Education and Academic Affairs (ADEA) is responsible for leading the accreditation effort, as well as providing overall leadership, vision, strategy and oversight of the curriculum in the Bitonte College of Dentistry (BCOD). This position has authority and responsibility for overseeing all personnel, policies, and activities related to accreditation and the delivery of a streamlined, coordinated curriculum consistent with the NEOMED mission, leading to the award of the D.D.S. degree. The ADEA will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the College comply with accreditation standards.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Curriculum: Stimulate collaborative endeavors to improve all academic programs for students; promote educational innovations and research. Provide curricular oversight to ensure that the needs and expectations of the students and faculty are managed in accordance with the college by-laws and CODA standards. Ensure the learning space and technology needs satisfy the curriculum and accreditors. Identify appropriate clinical and basic science faculty appropriate for providing instruction in the College. Prepare for and oversee the delivery of the curriculum to ensure consistency and delivery in a coordinated manner. Foster the development of interprofessional education throughout the curriculum. Oversee on-going evaluation of curricula/teaching and preparation of all pertinent documentation/reports, including assessment and evaluation of faculty and course directors. May also serve in a teaching capacity.
Accreditation: Develop a plan for, and lead the implementation of, the accreditation effort. Develop policies and procedures to support accreditation. Serve as the main accreditation lead for Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) to ensure that a timely and complete self-study can be submitted in time for the upcoming CODA visits. Serve as the point of contact to CODA and clearly communicate CODA standards and expectations to stakeholders, while remaining current on any changes to the standards. Maintain all CODA records and ensure the University adheres to all reporting deadlines and requirements. Actively participate in CODA conference calls and updates.
Committees: Organize the structure of the Bitonte College of Dentistry (BCOD) committees and advise the Dean about the necessary committees to comply with CODA standards and address the needs of the BCOD. Responsible for centralizing the minutes of the committees and faculty meetings. Participate on College or University committees deemed appropriate; provide leadership to curriculum management and other oversight committees.
Serve as liaison and advocate for BCOD and NEOMED.
Strategic Planning: Monitor and manage the Academic Affairs department budget, provide input to other budgetary areas in the BCOD. Participate in strategic planning activities for the College of Dentistry and make strategic recommendations aligned with the mission, vision and values of the college, as well as CODA standards.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • D.D.S./D.M.D. degree (or equivalent).
  • Must be eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at NEOMED.
  • Required decanal or high-level administrative experience in dental education at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in dental education administration, curricular development and implementation.
  • Administrative experience in curriculum development with an in-depth understanding and knowledge of accreditation of dental programs, particularly the requirements and expectations of CODA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to champion education within an academic institution, as well as among a wide range of external constituencies.
  • Strong track record with national recognition as an educational scholar and/or clinician-educator.
