The Opportunity:
As a Laboratory Assistant 2, you will perform a variety of laboratory support procedures with minimal supervision. You will manage lab waste and research materials according to their hazardous components, oversee department space, and operate complex equipment that involves high pressure and extremely hot steam, caustic chemicals, and other hazardous materials. In this role, you will serve as a central communication hub between key university departments-including Environmental Health & Safety, University Stores, Surplus Stores, Central Receiving, and Waste Management-and you will use these relationships to educate VMP researchers on proper purchasing procedures for various tasks to ensure compliance with university, state, and local regulations.
Additional Information:
This is a full (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,752 to $5,011 | Range 42 | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • One year's experience as a Laboratory Assistant 1 OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with an emphasis on clarity and collaboration.
