Position Details:
The Opportunity:
Washington State University Tri Cites is now accepting applications for an Academic Advisor within the Office of Student & Academic Affairs. As an Academic Advisor you will provide holistic academic advising to undergraduate students from majors within the Carson College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. You will support students as they navigate the higher education environment, set academic and career goals, understand degree requirements, and connect with co-curricular opportunities such as internships, study abroad, undergraduate research, scholarships, leadership experiences, and employment.
In this role, you will also meet regularly with advisees, assist with course selection and registration, monitor academic progress, and help students develop strategies for success. You will support student success programming, academic intervention efforts, reinstatement processes, workshops, presentations, and collaborative initiatives that advance recruitment, retention, transition, and degree completion at WSU Tri-Cities.
Percentage Breakdown of Job Functions:
  • 65% - Academic/Student Success Advising
  • 15% - Administrative Functions
  • 15% - Support Department, College, and University Success
  • 5% - Other Duties as Assigned

Additional Information:
This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
This is an on-site/in-person role at the WSU Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA.
Monthly Salary: $4,050.92 to $5,161.00 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with academic or career advising and experience applying academic rules and regulations.
  • Work experience using student records systems, such as PeopleSoft or Banner.
  • Work experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain professional and courteous and interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work weekends and after hours.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Working knowledge of learning styles, first-year experience, retention strategies, academic success strategies, and career development.
  • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to develop and deliver engaging and informative presentations to students.
  • Past work experience in academic and career advising at the post-secondary level.
