Project Manager, Sheet Metal

Based out of: Calgary, AB Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent Industry: Mechanical / Commercial Construction

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, multi-service mechanical contractor serving commercial, civil and industrial building projects across Western Canada. With a long history in the industry and a skilled, experienced workforce, they are known for quality workmanship and a strong project pipeline. They are currently seeking a full-time Sheet Metal Project Manager to join their Calgary team.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Project Management

  • • Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of superintendents and foremen on all assigned projects
  • • Initiate, review and oversee all required project administration and documentation to avoid claims and protect the interests of the company and client
  • • Ensure contract agreements are promptly secured, reviewed, processed and executed
  • • Review, finalize and distribute project budgets; make all required updates and revisions, and review budgets in monthly work-in-progress meetings
  • • Conduct pre-construction turnover meetings and post-construction closeout meetings for all assigned projects
  • • Ensure all required permits and licenses are obtained and posted
  • • Set up, monitor and update project schedules
  • • Coordinate procurement of materials and equipment, with emphasis on a buyout plan that meets or improves on established schedule dates and budget costs; ensure release and expediting of all materials and equipment
  • • Negotiate, prepare, process and execute subcontract agreements; manage all subcontractors and suppliers
  • • Prepare submittals and ensure submittal review, processing, approvals and logs are set up and maintained
  • • Develop, submit and obtain approval of billing schedules of values; prepare and submit progress billings accurately and on time, and collect all payments and holdback receivables by their due dates
  • • Price, negotiate and process all change conditions and change work orders; maintain all change-related logs
  • • Take responsibility for overall financial performance of assigned projects, including continual cost control, management and forecasting
  • • Review, approve and process all subcontractor and supplier invoices
  • • Oversee tool and equipment rentals, ensuring unused tools are returned promptly
  • • Set up budgets, purchase orders and subcontracts for awarded work in construction management software (Procore/ERP)
  • • Prepare drawings and related documentation to enable superintendents and foremen to execute their work successfully
  • • Attend site M&E meetings as required
  • • Ensure all field staff have proper safety training and required tickets; conduct site safety inspections
  • • Follow up on all tenders and maintain the tender log; coordinate tender submissions with the Estimator and determine mark-up values in conjunction with the General Manager
  • • Assist the General Manager in addressing, resolving and settling project disputes or claims, and keep them informed of major developments
  • • Ensure all projects are closed out in an organized and timely manner

    People Management

  • • Develop and lead a team of Project Coordinators and site staff
  • • Manage the recruitment process in accordance with company procedures; hire and terminate field staff as required, and process related documentation
  • • Ensure all projects are staffed with appropriate field forces and review labour productivity
  • • Manage employees through performance appraisals and discipline, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures
  • • Communicate regularly with field superintendents and foremen to ensure jobs are properly executed and staying within budget

    Other Responsibilities

  • • Maintain positive, professional relationships with all internal and external customers
  • • Make constructive suggestions on improving procedures, productivity and efficiency
  • • Attend site walkthroughs for open tenders; review and approve tender documents, take-offs and estimates with the Estimator prior to submitting quotes, and follow up on closed tenders
  • • Provide budget numbers for potential work and prepare quotes upon request
  • • Develop new business and clientele, including client entertainment to build rapport
  • • Review and update estimating numbers against historical data as needed
  • • Attend internal office meetings and training; other duties as required
