Status: Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt), 37.5 hours per week.

Job Summary
The Project Coordinator will lead efforts to coordinate and oversee the implementation of a community-wide substance use prevention coalition throughout the Sterling Heights Community. The Project Coordinator will engage area schools, community partners, and key stakeholders to mobilize a community-specific workplan to reduce the prevalence of substance use. The Coordinator is responsible for implementing evidence-based strategies to address risk factors and build protective factors that influence youth decision-making.
The ideal candidate is outgoing, able to work independently, as well as in a team environment, has a strong understanding of substance use prevention, is comfortable with public speaking, and excels at building community relationships. They will work closely with coalition members and school staff to develop, support, and evaluate substance use prevention initiatives targeting tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs.
Description of responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of a community-wide substance use prevention coalition in Sterling Heights.
  2. Recruit active sector representatives to mobilize community-specific workplan, in accordance with the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program.
  3. Market evidence-based substance use prevention strategies to schools, community groups, and faith-based organizations located in assigned community.
  4. Execute the workplan goals and objectives as outlined in the DFC continuation application.
  5. Facilitate evidence-based programming in schools and other community-based settings, as needed.
  6. Provide presentations on general substance use issues and evidence-based community change models to the coalitions and broader community, as needed.
  7. Disseminate substance use information at health and public fairs, school open houses and other community events as requested.
  8. Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including evening and weekend hours.
  1. Knowledgeable of national and local substance use and prevention statistics and demonstrates the ability to apply current trends to service delivery.
Required experience:
  1. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  2. Must possess knowledge and understanding of the Strategic Prevention Framework, Recovery Oriented System of Care, and Trauma Informed Services.
Required skills / education:
  1. High School/GED required.
  2. Must be certified as a Prevention Consultant or Prevention Specialist (CPC-R or CPS) or be eligible for a registered development plan and be timely in its implementation upon hire.
  3. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator license.
