POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist Optometrists in scribing during a patient exam. Review patient status and perform medical tests. Assist with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained. Set up and clean up from procedures. Educate patients on the proper use of eyeglasses and contact lenses. Maintain patient records and update as necessary; ensure confidentiality with all patient information according to HIPAA

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROCESS & PROCEDURE

• Perform all preliminary components of the ophthalmic work up depending on orders/protocols for exam type

• Scribe for the Optometrists by documenting results obtained in exam

• Document chief complaint and full history in a timely manner

• Gather medical records and patient information

• Maintain confidentiality with all patient information according to HIPAA

• Perform diagnostic testing

• Operate, maintain, and clean a variety of ophthalmic instruments

• Assist Optometrists with basic procedures

• Help patients with vision screening and in determining the power of their eyeglasses or contact lenses

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

• Greet patients and customers

• Handle billing and insurance process

• Answer phones

• Schedule appointments


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduating Optometrist waiting for license

• 2-3 years optical or retail health operations experience preferred

• Working knowledge of ophthalmology terminology

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong planning and organizational, and time management skills

• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment

• Strong problem-solving skills to identify problems and develop solutions

• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

• Attention to detail

• Able to thrive within a fast-paced environment

• Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & WORK REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization through written and two-way verbal communication

• Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time

• Able to operate various office equipment (e.g., personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.)

• Able to read and write at a high school graduate level

• Able to lift 10 to 20 pounds

• Able to view/read computer screen for extended periods of time

• Able to work normal and/or extended (evenings, nights, and weekends) office hours to meet established deadlines

• Able to travel independently to support Company objectives and personal development
