About the Role

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards is seeking an Assistant Tasting Room Manager to help lead one of Virginia's premier winery hospitality experiences. This position plays a key leadership role in supporting daily tasting room operations, developing team members, driving sales, and ensuring every guest receives exceptional service.

The ideal candidate is a hospitality-focused leader who enjoys being highly visible on the floor, coaching employees in real time, building guest relationships, and creating memorable experiences. While prior wine knowledge is welcomed, we are prepared to train the right candidate who demonstrates strong leadership, hospitality, and operational skills.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Daily Operations
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) during scheduled shifts, overseeing daily tasting room operations and guest experience.
  • Maintain a strong floor presence throughout service, providing leadership, direction, and support to the team.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, inventory management, and operational execution.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and applicable alcohol service regulations.
Guest Experience
  • Deliver exceptional hospitality while maintaining a highly visible presence in guest-facing areas.
  • Conduct regular table touches and guest interactions to build relationships, resolve concerns, and elevate the overall experience.
  • Support service standards and ensure consistent execution throughout the tasting room.
  • Assist in managing guest flow, reservations, and service recovery when necessary.
Team Development
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management of tasting room staff.
  • Lead by example and foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented culture.
  • Support employee development through ongoing coaching and accountability.
  • Assist in creating schedules and ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
Wine Program & Sales
  • Support the management and execution of the tasting room wine program.
  • Assist with staff wine education and ongoing product training.
  • Conduct tastings and confidently communicate winery offerings to guests.
  • Drive wine sales, club memberships, and other revenue opportunities through exceptional guest engagement.
  • Prior wine experience is preferred but not required; candidates with strong hospitality leadership experience and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience in hospitality, food and beverage, retail, or a related guest-service environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for hospitality, guest engagement, and team development.
  • Wine knowledge or winery experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and peak business periods is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, business, or a related field is preferred but not required.
