How much do assistant leasing agent jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for assistant leasing agent in the United States is $18.52, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.11 and $19.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the role of a leasing assistant?

A leasing assistant supports property leasing activities by handling inquiries, preparing lease documents, and coordinating property viewings. They often use property management software and need good communication skills to assist prospective tenants and ensure smooth leasing processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Leasing Agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Leasing Agent, you need strong sales abilities, customer service skills, and knowledge of real estate or property management, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with property management software, CRM systems, and digital marketing tools is typically required. Outstanding communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills help you build rapport with prospective tenants and resolve issues efficiently. These skills and qualities ensure smooth leasing processes, high occupancy rates, and positive tenant experiences.

What are some common challenges Assistant Leasing Agents face when working with prospective tenants?

Assistant Leasing Agents often encounter challenges such as managing multiple inquiries simultaneously, addressing diverse tenant needs, and ensuring prompt follow-up to keep prospects engaged. Balancing administrative tasks like processing applications and maintaining accurate records with providing excellent customer service can also be demanding. Successful agents develop strong organizational skills and communication strategies to efficiently handle busy periods and foster positive relationships with both tenants and property managers.

How much do leasing agents make per lease?

Leasing agents typically earn a commission or fee for each lease they secure, which can range from a flat fee of $50 to $200 or a percentage of the first month's rent, often around 25%. The exact amount depends on the property management company, location, and lease value, and some agents also receive a base salary plus commissions. Skills in sales and customer service can influence earnings per lease.

What is the difference between Assistant Leasing Agent vs Leasing Agent?

AspectAssistant Leasing AgentLeasing Agent
CredentialsHigh school diploma; real estate license often preferredHigh school diploma; real estate license typically required
Work EnvironmentSupports leasing team, assists with showing properties, administrative tasksConducts property showings, negotiates lease agreements, manages tenant inquiries
Employer & Industry UsageReal estate agencies, property management companiesProperty management firms, leasing offices, real estate brokerages

The main difference is that an Assistant Leasing Agent supports the leasing process with administrative and preparatory tasks, while a Leasing Agent actively conducts property showings and negotiates leases. The Assistant Leasing Agent typically works under supervision, gaining experience to become a Leasing Agent.

Will AI replace leasing agents?

AI technology can automate certain tasks performed by leasing agents, such as screening applicants and managing inquiries, but it is unlikely to fully replace the role. Leasing agents also rely on interpersonal skills, negotiation, and local knowledge, which are difficult for AI to replicate completely. Therefore, AI may serve as a tool to enhance efficiency rather than replace leasing agents entirely.

What are Assistant Leasing Agents?

Assistant Leasing Agents support leasing managers and agents in the process of renting out residential or commercial properties. They help with tasks such as showing properties to potential tenants, processing applications, preparing lease documents, and maintaining records. Their role often includes customer service, administrative duties, and assisting with marketing efforts to attract new tenants. Assistant Leasing Agents are key in ensuring a smooth and efficient leasing process for both property owners and renters.

Is being a leasing agent a good job?

A leasing agent is responsible for showing rental properties, processing applications, and managing lease agreements. The role often requires strong communication skills, customer service, and knowledge of local rental laws, with typical working hours including weekends and evenings. Job satisfaction depends on individual preferences for sales, interaction, and the real estate environment.
