Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Dane Street is seeking an experienced New York Liability IME Specialist to support our growing Liability division. This role serves as the medical-legal subject matter expert throughout the Independent Medical Examination (IME) process, ensuring that the appropriate physician is selected, medical records are thoroughly analyzed, and IME reports are accurate, well-supported, and defensible.
Ideal candidates include insurance defense paralegals, New York bodily injury/liability claims adjusters, IME coordinators or specialists, and other litigation professionals with substantial New York auto liability experience.
This is not an entry-level operations role. The position requires extensive knowledge of New York automobile liability claims, bodily injury litigation, personal injury matters, medical terminology, and Independent Medical Examinations. The successful candidate will exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, and strong analytical skills to evaluate complex medical-legal documentation and support high-quality client deliverables.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical-Legal Case Analysis
  • Review referrals to determine the appropriate medical specialty and expert(s) based on the allegations, claimed injuries, treatment history, and litigation strategy.
  • Analyze Bills of Particulars, medical records, diagnostic studies, operative reports, deposition testimony, and attorney correspondence.
  • Interpret complex medical terminology and treatment records to understand the nature and progression of injuries.
  • Identify missing documentation, inconsistencies, or additional information needed prior to physician review.
  • Physician Selection & Case Strategy
  • Match cases with the most appropriate New York liability medical expert based on specialty, expertise, venue, injury type, and case complexity.
  • Maintain working knowledge of New York IME physicians across multiple specialties.
  • Assist in identifying physician recruiting needs based on client demand and market gaps.

IME Report Review & Quality Assurance
Review IME reports to ensure all client questions have been fully addressed.
Evaluate reports for medical accuracy, consistency, completeness, and defensibility.
Identify inconsistencies between:
  • Bills of Particulars
  • Medical records
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Physician examination findings
  • Disability assessments
  • Prior and current treatment

Recognize unsupported medical opinions or insufficient rationale requiring clarification.
Coordinate report revisions directly with physicians when necessary.
Client & Physician Collaboration
  • Serve as a medical-legal resource for internal teams and clients.
  • Communicate professionally with physicians, physician offices, claims professionals, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with complex referrals and resolve case-specific issues.
  • Collaborate with Scheduling, Operations, QA, Credentialing, and Sales to ensure timely case completion.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Stay current on New York liability trends, medical specialties, and IME best practices.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • New York automobile liability claims
  • Bodily injury claims
  • Personal injury litigation
  • Insurance defense litigation
  • Independent Medical Examination (IME) operations
  • Insurance defense paralegal work

Required Knowledge
Candidates should demonstrate strong working knowledge of:
  • New York automobile liability claims

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
