The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

Position Overview

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and effectively communicate the clinical status of patients, responding promptly and accurately to any changes in their condition or treatment response.

Additionally, you will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. You will also promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions with colleagues, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
  • Evaluate and manage pain, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques, while educating patients and families on pain management strategies.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and the effectiveness of care in a timely manner.
  • Develop and adjust individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications relevant to patient age and clinical condition.
  • Provide patient care in a safe environment that fosters positive outcomes.
  • Exhibit flexibility and organizational skills while functioning effectively under pressure.
  • Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities.
  • Create and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of these plans.
  • Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, pursuing ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor within the profession.
  • Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion and the placement of peripheral and central monitoring lines, as well as epidural catheters.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of airway management and the use of relevant equipment.
  • Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
  • Provide accurate reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
  • Experience in critical care is preferred.
