Job Description:

Summary:

The American University's School of International Service (SIS) is seeking a responsible and proactive undergraduate or graduate student to join our team as a Logistics and Communications Assistant for the Community of Scholars (CoS) pre-college program. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys planning, supporting high-impact events, and ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced academic environment.

The assistant will support an internationally diverse cohort of high school students in an intensive, two-week academic program, providing hands-on logistical support for faculty, students, families, and staff. Communications and social media responsibilities will support the program's day-to-day operations and student experience.

The assistant will report directly to the Director and receive daily guidance and task assignments.

Essential Functions:

1.) Logistics and Program Support (Primary Focus)

  • Support CoS faculty with classroom logistics and material needs.

  • Coordinate arrangements for internal and external program events (e.g., speaker visits, site tours).

  • Provide support to resident assistants during student activities and evening events.

  • Assist with communications to students and families leading up to and during the program.

  • Help with move-in, orientation, and closing events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure program success.

2.) Communications and Social Media

  • Assist in managing content for the program's official Instagram and Facebook pages.

  • Provide real-time social media updates during the on-campus program (e.g., capturing photos/videos).

  • Respond to routine inquiries via social media and program email using pre-approved guidance.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 15 - 27 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 - $22.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience supporting events or managing logistics is a plus.

  • Comfortable engaging with students, faculty, families, and external partners.

  • Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook (content creation experience is helpful but not required).

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous work with a similar program, student group, or organization.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Must be available in person during the on-campus program from July 6 - 17.

  • Primary focus will be on daily program logistics, event coordination, and faculty support.
