Position Overview
The Director of Content Strategy will lead strategic content planning and consulting engagements for Mills James clients. This role will help organizations develop effective content strategies that align business goals, audience needs, and measurable outcomes across digital, social, video, and owned channels.
The Director of Content Strategy will collaborate with creative, production, account management, and business development teams to help clients maximize the value of their content investments through thoughtful planning, audience insights, distribution strategies, and performance measurement.
This role serves as a trusted strategic advisor to clients while helping strengthen Mills James' content strategy capabilities and long-term client relationships.
Primary Responsibilities
Content Strategy Leadership
•    Lead content strategy engagements for clients across industries.
•    Develop content frameworks that align business objectives, audience needs, content creation, distribution, and measurement.
•    Design content plans that support ongoing audience engagement and business goals.
•    Stay current on emerging trends in audience behavior, social media, content marketing, and AI-enabled content workflows.
•    Provide strategic recommendations that help clients improve content effectiveness and business impact.
Audience Engagement and Distribution Strategy
•    Advise clients on audience segmentation, channel selection, publishing strategies, and content planning.
•    Recommend approaches for adapting content across multiple platforms and audience segments.
•    Help clients maximize the value of content investments through integrated content strategies.
•    Identify opportunities to improve audience engagement and content performance.
Measurement and Performance Optimization
•    Establish measurement frameworks aligned with client objectives.
•    Define KPIs and success metrics across awareness, engagement, lead generation, and retention goals.
•    Collaborate with clients and internal teams to evaluate content performance.
•    Translate analytics and performance insights into actionable recommendations.
Client Consulting and Strategic Support
•    Facilitate content strategy workshops, discovery sessions, and planning discussions.
•    Present strategic recommendations and findings to client stakeholders.
•    Serve as a trusted advisor throughout strategy engagements.
•    Partner with account teams to identify opportunities for expanded strategic services within existing client relationships.
Collaboration and Service Development
•    Work closely with creative, production, and account teams to ensure strategic alignment across client engagements.
•    Contribute ideas and recommendations that enhance Mills James' content strategy offerings.
•    Support the development of tools, frameworks, and processes that improve consistency and client value.
•    Share knowledge and best practices across teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
•    7+ years of experience in content strategy, digital marketing, brand strategy, audience engagement, social media strategy, integrated marketing, or related disciplines.
•    Demonstrated success developing content strategies that drive measurable business outcomes.
•    Strong understanding of content distribution, audience behavior, analytics, and performance measurement.
•    Experience presenting recommendations and insights to senior client stakeholders.
•    Strong consulting, communication, and relationship-building skills.
•    Excellent written, verbal, storytelling, and presentation abilities.
Preferred
•    Agency or consulting experience supporting multiple clients.
•    Experience supporting video-centric marketing and communication initiatives.
•    Familiarity with paid, owned, earned, and shared media strategies.
•    Experience using analytics platforms and AI-enabled content tools.
•    Experience facilitating workshops and strategic planning sessions.
