Assistant Director (Full-Time)

This role supports daily operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and partners with educators and families to deliver exceptional care and education.

What You'll Do
  • Support the daily operations of the preschool program
  • Partner with the Director to ensure licensing compliance and program quality
  • Coach, mentor, and support teaching staff in best practices
  • Help create a safe, warm, and engaging learning environment across classrooms
  • Assist in staff scheduling, ratio coverage, and classroom support
  • Model nurturing, responsive interactions with children and families
  • Support enrollment, tours, and family communication
  • Ensure adherence to California Title 22 regulations and center policies
  • Help implement curriculum and assessment practices (DRDP as applicable)
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven culture

Required Qualifications
  • ECE units required under California Title 22 for Site Supervisor or Director qualification
  • Must have administrative units or be willing to obtain them upon hire
  • Must hold a valid California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or be willing to obtain one upon hire
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Calm, solution-oriented, and nurturing leadership approach

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a preschool setting
  • Knowledge of DRDP implementation
  • Familiarity with the Environment Rating Scale (ERS)
  • Experience with licensing visits and compliance practices

Program Leadership & Classroom Support
  • Support teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum
  • Provide coaching and feedback to teaching staff
  • Assist in maintaining consistent routines while meeting individual child needs
  • Support classroom management and child guidance strategies

Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance
  • Ensure active supervision and child safety at all times
  • Maintain compliance with licensing regulations and center policies
  • Support health, sanitation, and emergency procedures
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized facility

Family Partnerships
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families
  • Support enrollment, tours, and onboarding
  • Communicate program updates and address family needs
  • Participate in conferences and center events

Administrative & Professional Responsibilities
  • Assist with staff scheduling and daily operations
  • Maintain records, documentation, and compliance files
  • Collaborate with leadership and attend meetings
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and staff development

Physical Requirements
  • Lift and carry children up to 40 pounds
  • Sit on the floor and engage in play for extended periods
  • Bend, kneel, squat, and reach frequently
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Safely lift children in and out of cribs and changing areas
  • Push strollers or evacuation equipment as needed
  • Perform diapering/toileting routines as needed
