Job description

Compensation Grade: 156Job Description

At SAIF, our data governance mission is twofold: to enable strong, informed business decisions through trusted data, and to foster a culture where data is used responsibly, consistently, and effectively across the enterprise.
As a data governance analyst, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and applying SAIF's enterprise data governance program. You will serve as a subjectmatter expert in metadata management, enabling data stewardship, governance, and data quality and issue management. Partnering with both business and technology stakeholders, you'll support and coordinate data stewardship activities, decisions, and governance forums.
It's crucial that you bring hands-on experience with business and technical metadata, data classification, reference data, and data quality to this position. You'll also need experience applying data governance policies, standards, and stewardship models at an enterprise level.
SAIF's growing data governance program is working to improve data quality and build trust in data as all members of the organization make business decisions. Joining this team means you'll be a key builder of our data culture. While you are required to live in Oregon, SAIF employees enjoy remote, in-office, and hybrid work schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of the data governance program by advancing key capabilities, including metadata management (business glossary, data domain alignment, data catalog, data dictionary, data lineage), data quality, and stewardship.

  • Partner with business and technical stewards to develop and govern business and technical metadata, including defining business terms and definitions, aligning them to underlying technical data assets, identifying critical data, establishing data quality rules, and supporting issue remediation.

  • Understand business processes, data usage, and pain points to define data requirements and controls and influence improvements in data quality and governance practices.

  • Leverage data intelligence and data quality tools (e.g., metadata management and governance platforms) to enable metadata management, workflow execution, data quality monitoring, issue remediation, and stakeholder collaboration.

  • Facilitate alignment across business domains by defining consistent terminology and definitions, resolving definition conflicts, and supporting governance decision-making.

  • Develop and deliver data governance training and guidance to improve data literacy, stewardship engagement, and adoption of governance practices.

  • Support adherence to enterprise data classification, security, and privacy standards in alignment with Information Security and privacy policies.

  • Participate in governance forums to support decision-making, issue resolution, and program execution.

  • Establish and monitor data governance performance measures to evaluate program effectiveness and continuous improvement.

  • Evaluate emerging tools and industry practices to enhance governance capabilities and program maturity.

  • On-call support may be required on an as needed basis or part of a rotating schedule, including availability outside of business hours to support urgent IT issues or system implementations.

  • Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.

Additional functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support team objectives and organizational goals, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in responding to evolving priorities and needs.

Recommended qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or related areas. Experience implementing data governance capabilities, including metadata management, data quality management, and stewardship enablement. Strong analytical skills with the ability to define business quality rules, analyze data issues, identify root cause, and drive data quality improvement. Proven ability to partner with business and technical teams to define data requirements, resolve issues and conflicts, and achieve alignment. Effective communicator able to translate data concepts into clear, business-friendly language. Experience supporting governance processes such as stewardship workflows, issue management, and escalation. Working knowledge of data classification, security, and responsible data use practices. Strong understanding of technological environments and the data development life cycle. Proven ability to promote adoption of data governance practices through training, metrics, monitoring, reporting, and steward enablement. Familiarity with data modeling concepts, reference data management, and data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMADMBOK, DCAM).

  • Bachelor's degree in information Management, Data Analytics, Data Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Other combinations of skills and experience may be considered.
