Assistant Controller Wheeling Area, WV
Mancan Staffing is recruiting for an experienced Assistant Controller on behalf of a well-respected company in the Wheeling, WV area. This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated accounting professional who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with hands-on operational involvement in a dynamic business environment.
Salary: $90,000 $120,000 annually, based on experience
Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will serve as a key technical and hands-on contributor within the Accounting Department. This role will work extensively across multiple business systems, including the company's ERP platform, Sage 300 accounting system (Accounts Receivable and General Ledger), Paycom payroll, and Stonefield reporting tools.
The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for leveraging technology to improve processes and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
Prepare primary monthly journal entries for:
oSales
oCost of Goods Sold (COGS)
oCustomer and vendor rebate accruals
oOperating expense accruals
oReserves and contingencies
Review and analyze monthly close packages to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
Assist with financial statement preparation and account reconciliations.
Systems & Process Management
Become a power user of the company's SLS ERP system.
Generate reports, exports, and perform data transformations that feed the Sage 300 accounting system.
Automate report generation and delivery processes to improve efficiency.
Serve as a key resource for ERP-related accounting processes and system enhancements.
Develop expertise in Stonefield Query reporting and support business reporting initiatives.
Governance & Controls
Play a significant role in maintaining and enhancing the chart of accounts structure.
Support accounting policy development, implementation, and governance.
Assist in strengthening internal controls and accounting procedures.
Ensure compliance with company accounting standards and best practices.
Audit & Cross-Functional Support
Partner closely with the Group Controller during external audits.
Provide audit support, schedules, reconciliations, and documentation.
Collaborate with finance, operations, and leadership teams on special projects and process improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
Experience with ERP systems and accounting software required.
Experience with Sage 300, Paycom, and/or Stonefield Query is highly preferred.
Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
