Job description

Job Title: Batch Maker / Compounder

Job Description

The Batch Maker / Compounder mixes, grinds, and processes paint batches according to detailed formulas and instructions while strictly following safety protocols and using provided protective equipment. This hands-on role requires strong attention to detail, accurate documentation, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based production environment where everyone contributes across multiple areas of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Follow written formulas and raw material measurements with a high level of precision to ensure formula accuracy.
  • Mix, grind, and process paint batches while monitoring hydration times, grinding times, shaft speeds, and blade heights.
  • Recommend process adjustments to improve product quality and production efficiency.
  • Document all batch information, including any deviations from formulas and any additional materials used.
  • Prepare materials by pulling all required pigments and additives before starting each batch, and ensure a second team member verifies quantities.
  • Wash tank sides after pigment addition and clean large tanks when they are empty to maintain equipment cleanliness.
  • Ensure tanks are properly capped and covered when shafts are removed to protect product integrity and safety.
  • Set meters and scales for the correct resin type and monitor fill levels during resin and additive handling.
  • Dispose of empty bags and pallets and keep the plant and mixing areas clean, organized, and free of waste.
  • Move and handle 55-gallon drums safely and maintain organized and well-stocked raw material areas.
  • Tint custom batches and accurately match colors according to specifications.
  • Manage and track the use of empty containers to support efficient container control.
  • Pull and label 16-ounce samples for the laboratory to support quality control testing.
  • Monitor equipment for unusual noises, vibrations, or mechanical issues and report them promptly.
  • Keep additive racks full and report raw material levels when they reach halfway empty to support inventory control.
  • Assist in all other production and manufacturing areas as needed to support overall team operations.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license.
  • Knowledge of chemical handling and weighing procedures.
  • Basic experience with mixers, pumps, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across production areas.
  • Clear and reliable communication skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Attention to detail in following formulas, measurements, and documentation requirements.
  • Commitment to following safety protocols and using personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Chemical knowledge or experience is a plus.
  • Experience with batch mixing, compounding, blending, or batch making in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Experience in chemical, paint, ink, food, or related production environments.
  • Exposure to viscosity checks, ink testing, or similar quality checks.
  • Experience working with batch records and production documentation.
  • Comfort working around industrial mixers, pumps, and related manufacturing equipment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility focused on mixing and processing paint batches using industrial mixers, pumps, tanks, meters, and scales. The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Friday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with overtime available as needed. The environment is hands-on and fast-paced, with frequent movement of materials such as 55-gallon drums and regular use of personal protective equipment for chemical handling and batch processing. The facility emphasizes cleanliness and organization, requiring regular housekeeping of plant and mixing areas, proper disposal of packaging materials, and careful handling of raw materials and finished batches. Team members work closely together, supporting multiple production and manufacturing areas in a collaborative, safety-focused setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
