Event Sous Chef

We are seeking an experienced Private Events Sous Chef to support the Executive Chef in leading the planning and execution of private events, buyouts, and member functions, while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, organization, professionalism, and team performance. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with fine dining and banquet/events experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.

The Alston is an exclusive upscale membership lounge and French-inspired steakhouse dedicated to refined hospitality, exceptional ingredients, and elevated dining experiences. Our culinary program is rooted in precision, consistency, and thoughtful execution, delivering a Michelin-caliber standard of service with a strong focus on guest experience and team culture.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Executive Chef in planning, organizing, and executing private events, member functions, and buyouts from start to finish
  • Partner with the events/sales team to review BEOs (banquet event orders), finalize menus, and confirm timing, headcounts, and dietary needs ahead of each event
  • Lead, train, and support culinary team members assigned to private events while maintaining a professional and collaborative work environment
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established recipes and standards, adapting execution for plated, family-style, or reception/passed formats as needed
  • Maintain consistency, quality, and timing throughout event service, including multi-course and high-volume simultaneous service
  • Manage event-specific mise en place, station readiness, product rotation, and kitchen organization for private dining spaces
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, and cost control specific to event menus and custom guest requests
  • Maintain and enforce sanitation, cleanliness, and food safety standards across all event spaces and kitchen areas
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen, front-of-house, and events leadership to ensure seamless coordination from setup through breakdown
  • Support menu development for private events, tastings, and custom guest requests as directed by the Executive Chef
  • Comply with nutrition and allergy regulations and standards, including managing guest-specific dietary restrictions and allergen requests for events

Must pass/take a Food Handlers Certificate within two weeks of hire date

Other Functions:

  • Assist with additional operational needs to support efficient restaurant and event operations as directed by leadership
  • Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the private events calendar
  • Maintain a positive and professional presence while upholding company standards and culture

Physical Functions:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
