Position Summary

The Assistant Cheer Coach supports the Head Cheer Coach in the daily operation and continued development of the LSUA Cheer Program. This position assists with recruiting, coaching, practice planning, game-day operations, competitions, camps, and community engagement, while promoting academic success, leadership, sportsmanship, and the mission of Louisiana State University of Alexandria and the NAIA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Cheer Coach in planning and conducting practices.
  • Lead practices and team activities in the absence of the Head Coach.
  • Assist with teaching and developing cheerleading skills, including motions, jumps, tumbling, stunting, pyramids, game day routines, and competition routines.
  • Assist in creating, teaching, cleaning, and maintaining game day and competition materials.
  • Provide proper spotting and instruction to ensure athlete safety during all practices and

performances.

  • Travel with the team to athletic events, competitions, camps, appearances, and other university-approved activities.
  • Assist with athlete supervision during travel, practices, competitions, and university

events.

  • Help coordinate tryouts, recruitment events, youth camps, clinics, and community outreach activities.
  • Encourage and monitor academic success, personal development, and leadership among

student-athletes.

  • Promote a positive team culture that reflects professionalism, respect, integrity, and sportsmanship.
  • Assist with inventory and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and program supplies.
  • Support fundraising initiatives and sponsorship activities as assigned.
  • Assist with scheduling, communication, and administrative tasks as requested by the Head Coach.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Cheer Coach or Director of Athletics.
Work Environment

The Assistant Cheer Coach will work in gymnasiums, athletic facilities, outdoor venues, and travel locations. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required based on the team's competition and athletic schedules.

High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
Previous experience in competitive cheerleading and/or coaching.
Strong knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, including stunting and safety techniques.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.
Ability to demonstrate and teach proper cheerleading techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
Collegiate cheerleading experience.
Previous coaching experience at the high school, all-star, or collegiate level.
Experience with game day and competitive cheer programs.
Knowledge of NAIA athletics and collegiate athletics operations.
Certification Requirements
The Assistant Cheer Coach is expected to obtain and maintain an approved cheerleading safety certification, such as a current USA Cheer or equivalent nationally recognized collegiate cheer safety certification, within a timeframe established by the Head Coach or Athletics Department. The assistant coach must maintain all required certifications throughout their employment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to demonstrate cheerleading techniques.
Ability to spot athletes safely during stunting and tumbling activities.
Ability to lift, catch, and support athletes during practices and performances.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and participate in extended practices and events.
Ability to travel with the team and work evenings and weekends.
