Job Summary
Description of Position & Primary Duties:
The Head Cheer Coach will work under the supervision of the Athletic Director in accordance with Bishop Alemany High School's mission. The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Cheerleading Program including coaching, supervision, training and administration. The role includes planning practices, promoting school spirit, ensuring the safety of student-athletes, and fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. The Head Coach must realize and appreciate the need for the Cheer program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire athletic department.
Essential Job Functions:
โ€ข Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in Cheer.
โ€ข Teach proper safety protocols and ensure adherence to safety guidelines during practices and events
โ€ข Manage and supervise cheer practices, contests that require a pep squad, pep rallies, cheer competitions, and to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
โ€ข Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes.
โ€ข Ensures that all cheer coaches work together toward a common goal within the cheer program and provide unity with a structured feeder system.
โ€ข Foster teamwork, sportsmanship and positive behavior among team members
โ€ข Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
โ€ข Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
โ€ข Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program, which includes but is not limited to: making changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the program.
