Appraiser III (Field)
We are excited to announce that we are seeking candidates for an Appraiser III (Field) position. From day one, you'll join a collaborative, service-oriented team dedicated to supporting customer-owners while advancing Farm Credit of the Virginias' mission to serve agriculture and rural communities.
In this role, you'll be responsible for performing and reviewing appraisals and valuations of agricultural, commercial, rural residential, and personal property collateral. You'll provide critical market insight, maintain strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, and help ensure compliance with appraisal regulations and industry standards while supporting sound lending decisions.
Salary Range: $77,000-$113,200 plus incentive opportunities
Location: Staunton, VA
Responsibilities/Duties:
• Perform complete and accurate appraisals, valuations, and property inspections while meeting established quality and timeliness expectations.
• Independently maintain and analyze real estate and personal property sales databases, market data, and valuation resources.
• Review appraisals to ensure compliance with Association policies, FCA regulations, and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
• Support the Association's Chattel Valuation Program through the completion and oversight of personal property valuations.
• Communicate appraisal status, findings, and valuation concerns with lending, credit, and management teams.
• Build and maintain relationships with customers, industry professionals, and referral sources to strengthen market knowledge and appraisal operations.
• Assist with appraisal training initiatives for loan officers, evaluators, and other Association personnel.
• Maintain appraisal licensure and professional expertise through continuing education and industry involvement.
• Support land value studies, annual reporting, and special projects as requested.
• Adhere to all security, risk management, ethics, and compliance requirements while safeguarding confidential information.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Agriculture, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four or more years of appraisal experience, including commercial appraisal experience.
• State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser license or certification required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the Association's territory.
• Strong knowledge of agricultural production, rural real estate markets, and commodity trends.
• Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and external vendors.
• Working knowledge of FCA regulations, appraisal best practices, and USPAP standards.
