Based in Truckee, CA, the Asset Protection Manager directly supports 18 retail stores' security and loss prevention in the Reno/Tahoe area. This includes retail stores in Washoe, Plumas, Placer, El Dorado, Lassen, Nevada, Churchill, Douglas, Mineral, and Pershing counties (District 14).
The Asset Protection Manager will provide positive/proactive leadership and instruction in Security and Asset Protection. This individual will be responsible for preventing crime and loss to the company through established policies and procedures, strategies and training programs, and technology, while working closely with Operations and Division level associates. The Asset Protection Manager will promote workable, realistic Asset Protection programs that foster a safe shopping and working environment for our customers and associates within the scope of Albertson's core values.
Responsibilities
  • Protect customers, associates, and company property.
  • Protect company assets to include property against theft, illegal entry, and illegal activities.
  • Promote adherence to company policies and procedures; familiarize associates with company rules and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain awareness of Asset Protection and Security Programs and Policies.
  • Promote the Exception Reporting System to ensure compliance with goals and objectives.
  • Work closely (partnership) with Division Operations and staff.
  • Maintain formal and informal channels of communication throughout the organization.
  • Encourage the expression of new ideas, suggestions, and constructive criticism.
  • Act as liaison for Corporate Counsel, Labor Relations/Human Resources, Government Agencies, Operations personnel, Law Enforcement Agencies, Community groups, Outside Agencies, Judicial Agencies.
  • Monitor in-store AP/security programs (where applicable) and make recommendations to ensure effectiveness.
  • Monitor the progress of Asset Protection programs and Safety programs (where applicable) and make recommendations to ensure effectiveness.
  • Identify security problems, concerns, and trends across their respective District and Division. Actively seek to resolve problems with available resources.
  • Contribute to the development of shrink reduction and awareness strategies for all division and distribution (where applicable) facilities.
  • Support the implementation of shrink reduction strategies and initiatives for targeted shrink stores.
  • Develop division short- and long-range plans for Asset Protection.
  • Lead and manage Asset Protection Specialist(s), with the responsibility to ensure on-going development, teaching, and guidance.
  • Assign Asset Protection Specialists (if applicable) to tasks and assignments, while leading and supervising them in performance of work, setting goals, meeting objectives, and Safeway/Albertsons' core values.
  • Assign, assist, and supervise all respective district investigations; both internal and external, while working closely with Human Resources, Legal, Labor Relations, and Division Operations.
  • Investigate store issues, including but not limited to theft, fraud, workplace violence, policy/procedure, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
  • Investigate RX drug diversion cases and report findings to PCAT team.
  • Investigate EthicsPoint calls.
  • Report investigation findings to Human Resources, Legal, Labor Relations, and/or Division Operations for disposition.
  • Communicate & document facts/findings of investigations in AMAC.
  • Manage and submit required reports to corporate and senior division management.
  • Present facts at unemployment and union hearings as appropriate.
  • Handle police requests and respond appropriately to subpoenas; engage with Division Counsel as appropriate.
  • Provide expert testimony in designated civil or criminal litigation.
  • Support with execution of training curriculum for Asset Protection Specialists.
  • Conduct compliance Audits/AML Audits.
  • Perform shrink best practice and night audits visits in retail stores. Prepare and submit required reports for management review.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of Asset Protection programs designed to protect Customers, Associates, and Company Assets.
  • Ensure Asset Protection training programs are effectively implemented in stores.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
Experience: 5+ years' experience as an Asset Protection/Loss Prevention Manager or equivalent Asset Protection/Loss Prevention retail experience preferred
Skills and Experiences
  • Knowledge of city, county, state penal codes, particularly those laws related to but not limited to shoplifting, retail crimes, courtroom demeanor, etc.
  • Possess the initiative to help create and nurture a world class Asset Protection team through training programs, promotion of the department, identification of high achievers, etc.
  • Possess the ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results. Must have the ability to represent the Company's interest to outside parties.
  • General knowledge of computer capabilities (word, excel, e-mail).
  • Possess good communication skills, both oral and written as well as the ability to make effective presentations before groups. Possess strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone.
  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe and thorough completion of work activities. Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.
  • Multitasked oriented.

Travel Requirements: Division-wide travel, up to 70%
Physical Environment
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
  • Incumbent could spend a majority of time traveling throughout the Division visiting retail units, attending hearings and arbitration, etc.
  • Must have own transportation and be available for overnight travel.
