Job Description
We are seeking a Technical Writer to develop, author, and maintain military technical manuals and structured content supporting complex systems and equipment. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineers, subject matter experts, instructors, and program teams to create clear, accurate, and compliant maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting documentation for military end-users.
Key Responsibilities
  • Write, rewrite, and develop technical manual content including Operating Procedures, Maintenance Procedures, Troubleshooting Procedures, and Preventive Maintenance documentation.
  • Create and maintain technical content that effectively communicates complex information to military users.
  • Oversee the development and integration of illustrations, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
  • Conduct quality reviews to ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, and compliance with military standards.
  • Author and publish structured technical content in electronic and interactive formats using HTML, XML, and SGML.
  • Collaborate with engineers, instructors, task leads, and other stakeholders to develop and deliver technical manuals.
  • Research and compile information from engineering documents, program data, and technical sources.
  • Develop manual outlines and ensure compliance with military specifications and technical writing standards.
  • Support documentation updates, revisions, and configuration management activities.
  • Perform additional technical documentation duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline or related field; OR
  • Military operations and maintenance experience supporting radar, communications, electro-optics, networking, or IT-based systems; OR
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through hands-on maintenance or technical experience.
  • Ability to interpret and work with military specifications (MIL-STD-40051 experience preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience tagging and editing XML documents.
  • Minimum 2 years of technical writing experience using structured authoring tools such as Arbortext, IADS Viewer, or similar XML authoring applications.
  • Experience using Confluence and JIRA.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to maintain required clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of technical writing experience with structured authoring tools such as Arbortext, IADS Viewer, or similar XML-based applications.
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100).
  • Expert knowledge of XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D, and DITA standards.
  • Experience developing military maintenance and operational documentation.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently within a team environment.

Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline or related field with relevant technical writing experience, or an equivalent combination of military, mechanical, engineering, and technical documentation experience.
