Job Title: Trademark Paralegal Department:


Reports to: Trademark Paralegal Coordinator


Job Summary: A Trademark Paralegal manages trademark and copyright deadlines, documents, and inquiries from USPTO, foreign associates, and clients.


Responsibilities:

• Reviews daily docket report for actions due; provides reminders to responsible attorneys before the due date with consideration for sufficient response time; confirms actions taken. Updates records accordingly

• Sends reminders regarding upcoming actions due to clients and foreign associates

• Performs routine status inquiries and updates records accordingly

• Reviews all incoming mail from USPTO/USCO, foreign associates, and clients; process as appropriate: o Dockets and /or prepares and sends response correspondence

• Prepares and timely files US trademark, copyright, domain name applications, maintenance, and renewal documents

• Corresponds with foreign associates regarding the application, maintenance, and renewal of trademarks

• Conducts preliminary online searches for potential trademarks and reports findings to a responsible attorney; orders comprehensive search reports summarizes findings, and forwards summary reports to a responsible attorney

• Generates cost estimate reports for filing foreign applications and forwards them to the responsible attorney

• Prepares status reports for attorneys and clients and client activity summaries upon request

• Miscellaneous attorney requests (research, reports, contacting IPO offices, etc.)

• Processes invoices Required Skills and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of USPTO trademark practices and procedures

• Strong knowledge of international trademark practices and procedures, including the Madrid Protocol. Accurate, conscientious, meticulous, and pro-active

Willingness and ability to complete all tasks, including photocopying and other administrative duties

 • Ability to work with both attorney and secretary personalities

• Ability to work as a cooperative member of the prosecution team

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

• Ability to multi-task • Dedicated to meeting deadlines

• Ability to work independently and manage one's time effectively


Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but at least 3 years of experience in the specific field will suffice

• Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program or equivalent work experience


Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

• Must be able to lift up to 5 pounds at times

• Work in the office three days a week.
