Job description

As a Pathologists' Assistant within Anatomic Pathology, you will be responsible for performing gross dissection of surgical specimens and documenting findings under the direction of pathologists. Other responsibilities include:

  • Performing gross specimen photography
  • Selecting tissue for appropriate ancillary testing
  • Procuring tissue for research protocols
  • Performing postmortem examinations and autopsy related duties including: abstracting clinical history, completing clinical summary and preliminary anatomic diagnosis, and previewing autopsy microscopy
  • Assisting with training of residents, fellows, and students
  • Assisting residents and staff with research projects

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, medical practices and human anatomy is required.
  • You will be required to attain PA Certification (ASCP) within one year of your start date. 
  • American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) certification at the Fellow (F-ABMDI) or Delegate (D-AMBDI) level is preferred.
