They value humility, community, and faith, and are recognized for their farming skills, handcrafted goods, and horse-drawn buggies. The Amish prioritize family life and mutual aid, maintaining a lifestyle that separates them from mainstream society.

To thrive as an Amish farmer, you need strong agricultural skills, knowledge of animal husbandry, and experience with manual farming techniques, typically learned through community apprenticeship rather than formal qualifications. Familiarity with non-motorized farming tools, traditional craftsmanship, and sometimes basic carpentry or blacksmithing is important. Reliability, a strong work ethic, and effective communication within the community are valued soft skills. These abilities are crucial for maintaining self-sufficiency, upholding community values, and ensuring the success of the farm without reliance on modern technology.

Many Amish people work as farmers, carpenters, furniture makers, blacksmiths, or in other skilled trades that emphasize handcrafting and traditional techniques. They often avoid modern technology and machinery, relying instead on manual labor and horse-drawn equipment. Some also operate businesses such as bakeries, quilt-making, or construction services. Their work is deeply rooted in their values of hard work, self-sufficiency, and community cooperation.
