Maintenance and Engineering Manager

Extrusion Manufacturing | On-Site | Phoenix, AZ


A well-established, financially secure aluminum extrusion manufacturer is seeking an experienced Maintenance and Engineering Manager to lead plant reliability, maintenance, and engineering operations. This role offers strong executive support, attractive compensation and benefits, and the opportunity to build structure, accountability, and long-term operational stability.


Position Overview

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance and Engineering Manager will lead maintenance and engineering across extrusion, painting, anodizing, and fabrication operations.

This leader will be responsible for equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance, team development, engineering support, capital projects, and continuous improvement. Approximately 80% of the role will focus on maintenance leadership and reliability.

The right candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can solve mechanical and electrical challenges while also developing people, improving systems, and holding teams accountable for safety, quality, uptime, and execution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop maintenance technicians, skilled tradespeople, and engineering staff.
  • Build structure, accountability, and clear performance expectations across the department.
  • Improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs using a CMMS.
  • Increase equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and improve plant uptime.
  • Establish root cause analysis, corrective action, and follow-up processes for recurring failures.
  • Coordinate maintenance and engineering priorities with production, operations, safety, and quality.
  • Establish KPIs related to safety, reliability, quality, productivity, cost, and maintenance execution.
  • Lead equipment upgrades, automation improvements, installations, and capital projects.
  • Manage project scope, budget, schedule, vendors, and implementation.
  • Support continuous improvement across extrusion, painting, anodizing, and fabrication processes.
  • Develop team members and build leadership coverage and succession within the department.
  • Ensure all maintenance and engineering activities are performed safely and efficiently.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of engineering, maintenance, or reliability experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience leading maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with automated manufacturing equipment and industrial troubleshooting.
  • Experience with CMMS, preventive maintenance, root cause analysis, and reliability programs.
  • Strong project management, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead from the plant floor while building scalable systems and processes.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Aluminum extrusion or finishing experience.
  • Experience with extrusion presses, paint lines, anodizing systems, ovens, conveyors, saws, PLCs, drives, motors, and material-handling equipment.
  • Experience leading skilled hourly tradespeople.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, reliability, maintenance, or project management training.
