  • This role is part of the Safety Science team within Safety. You'll bring your data science, collaboration, and analytical skills to develop and maintain in-depth predictive analysis to tell the story of emerging safety trends and their possible causal factors, with the intent to drive solutions, preventing safety incidents before they occur.
  • You will be a part of an innovative team that will utilize Safety data from all areas of American. You will help enable data science solutions to promote the safety of our team members, customers, and assets.
  • This position is an in office position and would require five days in office attendance.

What you'll do
As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced.   • This role is responsible for closing the loop between the data collected throughout American's operation, and the appropriate operational stakeholders involved in risk-based decision making
  • Builds and maintains high fidelity statistical and machine learning models to proactively identify emerging safety trends
  • Dictates data structure, to include the blending of existing proprietary and publicly available data sources so that additional data points may be captured without impacting implementation timelines
  • Partners with Data Engineers to identify new data sources and data gathering techniques, ensure data availability and consistency, and assess data effectiveness and accuracy
  • Builds means for innovative and meaningful delivery of safety data and recommendations
  • Partners with Data Analysis Groups, and Operations Standards Boards to deliver compelling and actionable recommendations to drive informed decision making to all levels of company leadership

All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied
  • Mathematics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or similar field)
  • Expertise in collection, extraction, cleansing, preprocessing, wrangling, and analysis of large datasets to identify trends and actionable insights
  • 3 years of experience with hands-on data science or machine learning projects/products

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • 4 years' experience in Aviation or other High Reliability Organization
  • Experience in Operational Safety, or Human Performance analytics
  • Knowledge of Airline Operations

Skills, Licenses & Certifications
  • Expert knowledge of Alteryx, Tableau, and Power BI
  • Fluency in SQL, R, and Python
  • Familiarity with Cognos
  • Expertise in Statistical/Machine Learning Tools
  • In-depth knowledge in statistical and machine-learning techniques, applying predictive analytics to develop
  • practical safety solutions
  • Expertise in using data visualization tools to build dashboards for all levels of leadership
  • Experience delivering presentations and leading collaboration across all levels of management
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage and prioritize multiple complex deliverables
