About This Role

SHADES of Development is a non-profit afterschool program that provides learning-based educational programming. We operate in 14 schools across Knox County. This position is for Site Director of the SHADES Afterschool Program at Mill Creek Elementary School.


At SHADES of Development, the Site Director is the heart of each SHADES of Development program. The quality of care provided to the children at each center is determined by the Site Director. In order to maintain the highest quality program, the Site Director must be knowledgeable and demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and creative thinking skills. This posting outlines the key responsibilities of a Site Director; however, responsibilities are not limited to this list.


  • Full-time, salaried exempt position. Starting salary range based on experience and education ($42,360-$45,360).
  • Employer-sponsored insurance
  • Typical working hours would be from 10:00am – 6:15pm Monday - Friday; however, keep in mind that this is a salaried position that may require altered or extended hours from time to time to attend school functions, meet deadlines, attend training events, or other job related tasks.
  • Holiday pay for 13 State and Federal Holidays

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in qualifying child/education related degree.
  • Leadership and management experience with the ability to coach staff
  • Ability to provide a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate afterschool program
  • Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices in afterschool settings
  • Ability to handle difficult children and parents
  • Ability to maintain and monitor program billing and accounting tasks
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with parents and school personnel
  • Computer literacy with experience using Google application
