Material Planner

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Operations

Summary

Ensures that appropriate amounts of materials are purchased to complete a project. Receives plans and information from other departments and uses this information to determine the necessary materials needed. Coordinates with buyers so suppliers deliver ordered materials accurately and on time. Oversees inventory management of materials. Has knowledge of the Aerospace industry and materials used in the business. Modifies production schedule as required by process changes or other factors. Capable of working from blueprints or diagrams. Position not responsible for establishing operational sequences or processes. Coordinates with expediters within a large and complex computerized inventory system requiring application of computerized inventory control and associated accounting processes.

May require domestic and international travel to other facilities or job sites.

Job Functions
  • Maintains records and develops reports for the reconciliation of material inventories.
  • Ensures inventory system file security through limited access to main programs.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and provide quality customer service.
  • Applies and implements computer record-keeping systems and perpetual inventory systems.
  • Enters data or information into a computer system using a keyboard.
  • Communicates orally with other production control staff and vendors in one-on-one settings or by telephone.
  • Works cooperatively with other employees and the public.
  • Comprehends and infers from written material in the English language.
  • Produces written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Works safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.

Job Requirements

General computer and office skills including Excel and Word are required.

Minimum Education and Training
  • Degree in business, supply chain, or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • APICS (CPIM) certification is a plus.
Minimum Directly Related Job Experience
  • Three to five (3–5) years of experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000.
  • Knowledge of Just In Time (JIT).
  • Knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing of airline seats is a plus.
  • Knowledge of estimating methods.
  • Ability to manage business crises or short timelines.
  • Ability to work under uncertainty or unpredictability.
  • Ability to improve processes or procedures.
  • Problem-solver skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend documentation written in the English language.
  • Ability to read component maintenance manuals (CMMs).
